The backsplash looks really out of date and not interesting or right with the counters. Too yellow

I would paint it all the same color. Either all Argos or repaint and do all creamy white.

The kitchen should be a warmer tone than Argos. Something with the slightest bit of red to it to tie into the counters and floors. Then the backslash should be a plain warm cream subway.

Just paint kitchen and breakfast nook a creamy white it will look beautiful with your cabinets....if you are up to changing backsplash just a creamy white color tile...but I like the golden tone with the dark gray cabinets..it's the wall color that is throughing everything off!

SW Dover White or walls

That seems a little unfair. Certainly SW is caustic and she must live in a place with the highest cost of construction in the world given her minimum cost of renovation on any given occasion. But she is often realistically helpful and dryly funny. And I suspect she likes the black hole as representative of her personality.

I think the warm white will help tie it together. If possible I like the idea of changing the back splash. Light floors would be nice as well.

Hey Beth, NO at this is just asking, yes when I first started here I had troubles with her but she does have great points, she is short at telling you but most the time true. Yes she does give good info on here, just get used to her and agree what she says!? To me sorry Sophie but you are a military by the book interior designer! She was or can I ask where you an inspector also? But just asking why the black hole icon!

I would paint the walls Benjamin Moor Paper White. It's a nice light grey tone that I think will look perfect with your dark cabinets and future wood backsplash.

I think the black hole has more to do with her view of the recent results than any reference to her character. It's more a blackout than a hole.

hey Ken. I don't have any issues with her. She is a wealth of info and no nonsense, but can rub people the wrong way. I was trying to interject some of her humor by replying to your question. I guess some take it literally. whatever. No more attempts at humor on my part. sheesh.

I actually think if your cabinets were black that it would work but the gray is not working for me with the granite color.

The backsplash is begging to be replaced with rectangular tile of the lightest color in your granite. Match that in paint for the same color on the walls. Then evaluate cabinets for a color change if still needed.

Your countertops are amazing especially the island. :)

You evidently like gray, so stick with your cabinet paint color. Take others opinions as just that-opinions. Take your cabinet door with you to the paint store. Take a really good photo of counter top too. Ask for help at the paint store, they can at the very least point you toward some good kitchen wall color choices. Once you have decided on the kitchen wall color that blends with the cabinets and countertop and wall color of the rest of your house- then STOP----At least for awhile maybe a few weeks. Take a deep breath before you change or backsplash and stain your floors. Both are not easily remedied if you make an incorrect choice. Take it a step at a time-don't be in a hurry to get it all done at once. Others have noted that window treatment is a fire hazard. Quick fix-remove it. Good luck-too much advice may make you crazy. trust your instincts AFTER you do your homework.

So much better! Until the room is complete..new appliances..shiny hardware..art accessories..I love the contrast of the cabinets.....the only other choice you could Consider is SW Wordly gray..it is a white with neutral gray tones....but not necessary.

I would add a Natural woven shade on the window over the cook top and throughout the space to match the warm tone in your backsplash.

Every layer you add is very important..just hang in there it is going to be beautiful!

How are things going?

We have halted the painting of the walls until the floors get finished which they are staining as we speak and will send pic's. Although light would be preferred color we went with Ebony stained.

Ebony will show Every drop of water..dust and crumbs..I would rethink that one! Go for a medium to light stain to keep your sanity.

Everything except the back splash is fine. Change that back splash and it would all look great. I like the grey cabinets.

Where I live you cannot have a window above a stove top, maybe because a window covering could be a fire hazard as some have pointed out. I would forgo a window covering all together.

I am sure a natural woven shade that stays up like a valance is fine over that area...looks like it is a electric range top so no gas flame to worry about....how are things coming along?

Your new wall paint color looks very nice with backsplash and counters. Take a lot more photos during day and evening hours. Embrace your new choices and enjoy your new kitchen.

I like the lighter walls. I would consider changing backsplash to a subway tile that matches the lightest colour that is in your countertop. The lighter backsplash will lighten it up as once you put ebony floors in it will look very heavy.

Painting in kitchen has stopped :-(, no one in household besides me likes the lighter shade, says it makes kitchen looked unfinished. They want it the same color as rest of house Argos. We did go with the Ebony floors, my husbands choice.

Can we see a photo.....I was worried about that dark flooring going in;/ I think until you add dark accents that match your flooring....you need to be patient it looks unfinished because it is....window treatments,art and acessories are what are needed to get a finished look...with the dark floors it is necessary to add a dark woven shade or Roman shade to balance out the dark and light tones...right now I am sure it feels bottom heavy with that super dark floor.

We are chiming in a bit late and I'm sure our comments will double up some of the above, however, we would like to add our two cents. The backsplash is indeed the one thing that you can change now to help bring everything together a bit better, with your new grey palette. It is simply too rustic and yellow for the updated look and palette you've achieved in your kitchen area. You could choose the white (our choice) or lightest grey found in your countertops and go with a solid backsplash. You could also paint the backsplash, for a less expensive solution. As for the wall paint color, you could choose the a lighter grey that goes well with Argos for kitchen, extending it into the eating nook (ending about where the gentleman can be seen walking through in the original post photo) which should eliminate the kitchen looking "unfinished" as your husband put it. Last note, when trying out new paint colors, paint a large piece of foam core board to tape to wall, to try it out in different light, from daytime to evening. Good luck!

Here are a couple window treatment ideas to bring richness to upper half of kitchen without having to change out tiles..not sure why everyone thinks you have to change them..the warm tone is very pretty with gray...this combination is very popular??.... why does everyone think it is necessary to only put white and gray with gray....seems everyone is stuck in that design mode but it is not the end all in my opinion...I think you need to own the design and just folios through to the end.

The pictures make the floor look more red than they really are and the cabinets seem greener.

I love the grey cabinets. The lighter wall color looks great with the cabinet color. I would change the backsplash to update the color to match the new cabinet color. I love Flo's ideas.

Betsylou8 what suggestions did Flo reccomend? I tried finding it in this thread but I don't see anything.

The floor is beautiful. I think consensus is, update that backsplash! You are almost there, stay strong :)
