You can shutter any of the single windows you wish; front, side and back. May depend on budget. Just be sure they are sized and mounted to look functional and not faux stick-on ones.

My neighbors have just the front & it looks great! I do not feel it is necessary to have them elsewhere if you are not interested. A lot of homes do this. Even new builds. It's more contemporary.

I'm kind of liking the look with no shutters.

Agree to beef up the columns--that will make a big difference.

I would just do them on the front where the windows are more uniform. I think it would look good that way, even if you can see the other sides.

Also, is there a reason the siding on the front of the portico is still yellow?

Thanks for all the responses. Yes, the plan is to replace with larger square pillars, and the portico will have the grey siding. I would love to replace the whole portico but it will have to do for now. I always felt we should have shutters on the visible sides, but now I fear it would magnify the inconsistent spacing. Leaning towards just the front, can always add them later.

I would add the shutters on the front and side of the house. Another suggestion would be to increase the dimension of the two front columns and finish it them off with a base cap.

Adding shutters to all the single windows at the front and side elevations that are visible from the street is a good idea. They should look as though they fit over the windows and thus next to the frame and not on the outer edge of the wide casing. Creating more detail at the front porch would also enhance the exterior. Wider columns, eave trim and more cornice work in the small gable roof line are things that could be changed. All the best as you move forward!

I would leave it as is…no shutters. On the main road side, plant trees instead.

Have have some shutters...want it to look like it wasn't built in 1979.

You can purchase shutter hardware that looks more authentic. This would also make it look less 1979. Front porch improvements would also change the "dated" style.
