Thanks for the advice. I think I'm a good builder, especially for a DIYer. But I'm not sure how good I am at decorating. I think its just the picture but the art and mirror are at eye level. I picked up the art today. I thought it would give it an updated look as it has browns, greens, blues. All from which I read goes good with oak.

This is the vanity I'm thinking of putting in there. It's only 23'' inches so it should make the bathroom bigger and I think its very elegant. I would like to get a nickel waterfall type faucet.

Is this a powder room? It's completely up to you, but I wouldn't unless this is a rarely used powder room or extra bathroom. Take down the oak trim as well or the new pedestal sink will look misplaced. The art you have is also modern, so it might not necessarily work with this very traditional pedestal.

To be honest, I don't really know what a powder room is. lol I have 3 bathrooms. 2 upstairs and this one is near the family room downstairs. Basically the one guests use. This one is not even a quarter size of my other ones. does this help?

yes, that's pretty much a powder room. A room for guests, usually downstairs near family room. I say do what makes you happy.

I just wanna do something thats timeless and will always look good. I don't care about trends and showing off. Thanks for the pointers, more is welcomed.

Preferences are subjective, and not everyone who comes here is trying to chase trends. You can do lots of things with this room. I would suggest painting it another color besides white once you get the new sink. That will change the mood and compliment the style you are trying to achieve. Replace the modern art later when you get the new sink with traditional art. and maybe get a longer mirror. I would search for traditional or Old World powder room here for inspiration.

I was thinking of doing a different color. I just used what I had left over from another project. Its not a big deal to repaint, especially this small bathroom 30-45 minutes and its done lol. I might do it when I get the vanity.

I think you are moving in the right direction. While I would call the room and oak vanity traditional, it also appears very standard builder grade. A new vanity will make it look more unique, not the dirty word-trendy.

Truely thanks for your input. I've posted other stuff I did here last summer. Deck, shed. Those were things I knew 100% what I wanted and how I wanted it to look. This bathroom I was kind of stumped on. I think its the very limited space I had to work with. I think I'm just gonna go with my original gut feeling and take the trim off, do another color, and get that vanity. I'm very happy with the marble though. I might return that art piece now lol.

Sorry, but I hate your after as much as your before. No character at all. Nothing special here. Builder's grade cheap materials. You can do better.

@ white rabbit, It was an update for $100. Ripped wallpaper, $80 for marble tiles, the rest I had laying around. Paint, patch, mortar, ect. Can you do better? I haven't had time since I did the bathroom but when I get a vanity it will totally transform the bathroom. As a matter of fact I might be picking one up tomorrow, kinda similar to the one I posted above. Plus the picture is bad. You can't see the two tone paint job and you can't see the window by the toilet. Sorry I didn't hire a professional photographer.

That being said, you will never see me do this modern garbage that most of this site has. Its plain, boring, no class, no quality. Everything is pressed wood with white paint slapped all over everything. You will never see me do that garbage. If you seen my other posts of other project then you would see how I do things. This tiny powder room I didn't really put much thought into and was just stumped on.

Yes, super tile-cutting job! By the way, I actually think your original floor tile was really cool and original. Nice to see people working on projects with serious budgets. Since you're a self-proclaimed traditionalist, I have to say the wall art doesn't really look traditional me, just generic. But if you love it, by all means keep it!

And geez, people, no need for rude comments! Most of us aren't expecting magazine writers to show-up for photo shoots. We just want to do what we can without going into debt over it. Everyone deserves kudos for doing the best they can.

@TC Hudson, Thank you. I wasn't on a budget. But like i said before, I was stumped and just didn't know how to tackle this small powder room. All I knew is I hated the wallpaper and didn't really like the floor. So I did those first in the mean time. I knew the vanity was no good either and to big for the space. I just had no idea what to pick out without spending over $1,000 on a 23"-24" vanity I liked (now thats too much for the size lol). And no way in heck was I putting a cheap modern one in. I think I finally picked one out though, I'm going to look at it tomorrow. That's the magic of being an avid DIY'er. You can always go back and add or change stuff.

@Tony Montana -I've read your comments about other people's projects, and you were rude and insulting. That's why I was curious to see what made you so knowledgeable and worthy of being so critical of other people's homes. It was easy to see that you really should not be on this site, especially since you don't like "modern garbage."

@whiterabbit, so someone that don't even know which end of the hammer to hold and says "OMG amazing" cause white paint has been splattered all over the place can give better advise? Ok I won't add what I think anymore. I've already criticized my own bathroom stating the stuff I don't like. But even still, for a $100 update? I think this would be extremely helpful for someone on a tight budget.
