Is the striped tile brown or blue? Looks so different in the pictures.

In the first picture, the white doesnt work.

I think the brown is too dark for the floor. How much light is in that bathroom?

Oh, now I see..... The floor is brown and the lighter tile is grey.... While grey is very in, and grey and brown go together in some cases, I would not do that here. Choose a lighter, taupe colored floor to go with the grey, and then to run the stripe, pick something that has both colors in it, taupe , grey and maybe some beige.

This is the bath layout. Both boys have their own vanity with shared tub/shower & toilet.

The window is 18x24.

The striped tile has gray, a charcoal gray, and blue.

How about you get a lighter floor, as suggested before, then use the stripe to run as a border (cut in half, as Stamps Design Services says, or even smaller, the border could even be 4". So if it is 12" wide, cut it into 3 pieces, make all the other walls and the shower in beige and run border right around the room, also through the shower. Don't use the gold tile. Doesn't go with the stripe.

So then you pull the blue in with towels. I don't advise to paint the wall in bathrooms blue. Blue is water in Feng Shui and you have enough water already in the bathroom. You could paint the wall a more neutral color, taken from one of the tiles. Maybe even grey, if one of the tile is grey.

If you wanted to use the gold tile (looks gold on the picture??), then don't do the stripe. Those two don't go together style wise.

I like the colour combination you have chosen. However, I don't like the proposed design of runnng the steel tile vertically up right beside the striped tile. You are making them compete.

Here is a tip that I sometimes use when tiling bathrooms. Inevitably when you come to tile there will be cuts that have to be made to fit the tile to the ceiling and to the floor. A way to avoid that, is to bring the full tile down from the ceiling and up from the floor to meet somewhere in the middle - that uneven gap can be filled by your steel band.

So you end up with pale grey horizontal tile, 1 vertical strip of tile, and 1 horizontal band of steel going around the room or shower...

Melissa, congrats on your remodel! I have a question (curious) -- in your photos, the trim that looks "gold" - - is it actually the "steel trim" you mentioned ? The "steel trim" (or chrome, or silver or polished stainless steel) only looks golden because of the reflection of the wooden floor in the tile shop ? :) For example, in the third photo with the gentleman kneeling and holding up the tiles, the "steel trim" no longer looks golden, but white-ish and blue-ish because of the reflections of the white-ish floor tiles and dark grey floor tiles ? Just wondering. :)

Yes Ed, the checkered boarder has a stainless steel look with polished & brushed tiles. The boys vanity sink is nickel plated. Pictured below is the proposed vanity design we are going with.
