Which way is the better way to go...tile backsplash first and then mount chimney style range hood or mount range hood and then tile. To me, it makes sense to tile whole area first, but my contractor insists that the tile only goes around the chimney, not behind it. Esthetically, his way doesn't make sense. BTW, I am using ceramic subway up to the top of cabs. Would love to know which way the tile in this photo was installed...before or after? My range hood is mounted flush to wall as well.
