Biggest sink size for a 42" corner cabinet

I'm remodeling my kitchen and due to the odd layout, I'm putting in a sink at a diagonal between two windows. How can I calculate the largest size (width) of a sink that i can fit in here? I know that you only want it to be set in a few inches from the edge of the countertop, but are there any standard recommendations for a 42" corner cabinet?

Thanks,

Tristan

(Make sure that cabinet will fit through a door into your home. Ours almost didn't!)

The cabinet manufacturer should be able to tell you what size sink the cabinet will hold.

Do you want a single bay sink? If so, you can figure that size out by laying out on brown paper your cabinet size. then you can just measure. You can see if the cabinet fits through doors and passages also. Good trick to making sure things will work! Consider leaving at least 2-3" at front edge and space for undermount placement should you want undermount. I would guess around a 28-30' wide by 24 deep, but you need to map it out. If you can google the cabinet company they might have in the "specifications" section a description of what sinks will work. There are some "corner-type" sinks that have two bays and are on an angle to each other. I prefer the single sink approach. You can get bigger pans etc., in the single sink.

And no matter what you think you can fit, there are a limited number of common sizes; go with them, even if it means dropping down a bit. Get the sizes from the sink manufacturers' websites and the layout info from the cabinet company.

Personally, I really dislike corner sinks, but I understand your limitations, based on the drawing.

You won't even be able to fit in a standard 33" sink without cutting the sides of the sink cabinet to bring it forward. Otherwise, it will end up 6" back.

I hate corner sinks. They waste so much usable space. Look at doing a different design. With that design, you can't even stand at the sink with the DW door open. just horrible.

the sides of our corner sink cabinet was trimmed for our installation. we also have fill either side of the sink cabinet to stand off the trash and dishwasher. it makes for a wider corner with lots of room.

i also like having the deep space behind the sink for standing up baking sheets and hand wash pots to dry without taking up space either side of the sink.

some times kitchens have corners; i actually find my sink is a better use of the space than my previous kitchen with its 'clever' corner cabinet.

we have a corner sink. it works very well. We did put the dishwasher one cabinet away for easier access.

Corner sinks are something people either hate or love. It really depends on the needs of the user that determine whether a corner sink is feasible. Some people hate them while others brag on them endlessly. We have built some corner sinks for homeowners in a very similar situation, which they were pleased with.

Flo Mangan was right on the money with the explanation given. The only thing I will say about that is a corner sink won't necessarily hinder washing large pots or pans if the sink is made with the right functionalities (removable grids and basin separators). The important thing to take away from this is that a sink can be fitted to the needs and specifications of the end user, and therefore shouldn't be picked out based on limited options that the cabinetry seems to allow for. Below is an example of what I am talking about.

Feel free to call us to discuss any concerns you have with the design, as we are happy to help.

Very cool Havens Metal Works. I like the utilization of the space that is available. Not sure about the "reach" needed to use it, but still a very good approach!

Then there are recessed sink fronts a la Marandall which will give you more room for a larger sink. buehl has a link to photos with information on that setup. So far in my research a 42 inch will let you fit a 25 inch sink, moving the front of the cabinet back by a few inches can increase that to 33 inches. MarkJames & Co has put in many recessed sink fronts and can help you with information. There are also a lot of threads on size of sinks.

This is the installed sink shown above with a Waterstone Faucet suite. This sink was designed and sold by my company.

Ninigret, if you could I would so appreciate the measurements of your sink, and your cabinet. How far back is your sink from counter edge? Did you scoop out the side of your cabinets? I know this an older thread. It is very hard finding info for corner cabinet sink size possibilities. We are putting in a 42 inch corner cabinet and want a 26"-30" wide undermont sink.

good morning sunrise... my sink is a Blanco, 26 x 16. there is 4 3/4" of countertop in front of it. the cabinet inself is a hexagon, 24" across the front, hard to measure but i think its 60" at its widest point. (sideways, point to point of the flattened hexagon...) we have 2" of filler on each side of the doors (to widen the corner area) and then 3 1/2" of filler after that, next to the trash drawer and dishwasher. as a result of the filler, a person can stand at the sink with the trash and dishwasher open, all at the same time.

yes, the sink cabinet had to be scooped out inside a little to make room for the large sink.

as you can see, the back corner is flattened out. there is a plumbing chase in there for the upstairs hall bath. i have 11" of usable space behind the faucet, perfect for drying hand washables like cookie sheets and my le cruset cast iron.

Thank you for replying ninigret. I found a sink ELKAY EGUH2816R that I hoped to work. Outside flange measures 30 1/2". Might be too long. The next size down is too small. Want 8" deep, 26"-28" wide interior , and a rear offset drain so I can put trash pull out under sink. Hard to find.
