Fireplace makeover

Want to modernize fireplace by covering brick and changing color,dont know what material to cover with.dont really like thst jagged rock look,mayb something more smooth,rectangular?sectional will b grey,black white??herringbone tweed pattern?,2 charcoal colored barrel chairs in front of living room windows.Chairs in dining room are loaners new ones will be light gray with chrome frame.Could use a lighting idea for over dining table too!Any ideas will be appreciated.
