We have a ton of cats and use Flexco flooring. It isn't real wood, but it looks real and is super durable. With animals, their nails are so hard that the floor inevitably gets trashed. We chose functionality over aesthetics for this one. Any wood floor is going to gain some "character" from the dog nails. Oiled floors can be reoiled to eliminate most scratches, but they do require yearly maintenance and will show scuffs. The reclaimed types are already distressed, so if you can live with that, they will continue to gain even more lived in look.

We have a lot of animals both dogs and cats and have oiled engineered hardwood floors and love them. They do not show any scratches or wear!
