Front Loader / Detergent Dispenser

I have a front loader GE machine. After almost every cycle, the fabric softener and liquid bleach dispensers are filled with water. I've cleaned them at least 10 times over the past year. Nothing is working to address this problem. This started happening after about 6 months after buying the machine. They are only about 1 1/2 yrs old.

    Very common among all brands/models.

    Other factors that can contribute:
    - Low water pressure.
    - Mineral residue from hard water clogging the drawer's water ports.

There's nothing else to do if all that checks out OK ... just have to live with it.

No pressing need to empty the cups between loads if you're not using bleach and/or softener on a given load.

Yup, this has been the case with all of mine. I'm in the habit of dumping it out along with leaving the door ajar so everything inside dries out and doesn't mold.

Thanks. I'm thinking of dumping this beautiful set that is only a year old and getting a top loader but they seem most common without an agitator. I'm not sure about them either. I'm feeling frustrated

Switch to pods then you will not need the dispenser. I sure wouldn't buy a new machine over a little water in a cup. Mine has done this also off and on over the past sixteen years but I don't let it bother me. JMO.

@Carol Gunn REALLY, really think twice about getting a top loader (HE with impeller). Nothing is more thorough than a front load washer with turn over.

Deal with the little water left in the detergent drawer. Just dump it out. Use the machine until it dies and isn't worth the cost of repair.

Thank you. You kind of shook me to my senses - throwing away $2000 worth of machines for water in the tray. I will wait it out and keep dumping :)

Ya, getting rid of it because of a little water in the tray seems like an extreme overreaction. You might buy yourself a very expensive new problem that's a lot worse.

Even if I don't use the drawer for the detergent, and use a pod instead, the machine still flushes water through the dispenser. So if I have left the liquid detergent cups in the drawer they will hold water.

Not sure of the configuration of your detergent drawer, pictures would help. There are usually dividers with built in overflows that come out. There might be hair or residue build up under the dividers or in the overflow tubes. Take the dispenser apart and clean everything. You might need to use a pipe cleaner.

The detergent dispenser on mine is usually empty but there's always a little puddle in the fabric softener spot. I dry the door, the gasket and under the gasket when I finish my laundry, then pop the wipe into the FS tray to absorb the puddle. No amount of cleaning the dispenser has ever made the problem disappear.

I love the idea of raising the front feet a bit. I'm going to try that also.

Can that cause a balance problem?

"Can that cause a balance problem?" I was wondering the same thing? My drawer always has water in it, but I pour out the water & leave the drawer upside down on the washer. Not a problem for me.

I'll let you know. My husband is going to try it - just a little bit - and I'll report back what happens.

Mine also has a bit of water in it..not a problem as I remove it when I'm done for the day, rinse it out in the sink and turn upside down to dry. Seriously if you don't do this than I advise you to grab a flashlight pull your dispenser out and look at the top..mold often grows here.

    Carol Gunn,

The cup inserts for the bleach and softener section can be removed from the drawer if you don't use bleach and softener at all ... and/or left out for loads on which neither is used.

I never thought about doing that, thanks dadoes!!

You should use a level on top of the washer to adjust the feet. It is important that the washer be level front to back and side to side. Can you get the dispenser drawer out? My Samsung just has a tab that I press and the whole drawer comes out. Then maybe you can use a flashlight to see what is going on; or feel for something on one of the nozzels.

As I said in my post, the information was from a tech. You only raise it a little and then make sure it is level across the front after raising. I don't know that it will work, just posted what I read and where at so you can read it also.
