Foyer overhang

I just moved into our house and don't know what to do with this wall in our foyer. I painted it a neutral color (the same as the foyer) but now don't know what to do with it. Would you leave it empty or find artwork for it? If you would hang something on it, any ideas as to what to put on it?
Thanks so much!

A series of framed or unframed canvases could look great

I'm with leelee, keep your efforts below 8'. That's what you and other see and interact with. But if you must do something, and depending on your décor in rooms that adjoin it, you could drape a ethnic rug of some kind over it. That would bring some color and interest to this spot. It could be Scandinavian with blues and whites, or Native American, etc. I wouldn't put pictures there. I would constantly be leveling them or having to glue then down somehow.

A more interesting color for the whole foyer would be a great start. Neural is overrated. Especially when you need to interject personality. Paint is a great way to add pizzazz. It can always be repainted to Boring Beige or White Fright or Gag Me Gray when you go to sell.

I think it is a beautiful space! I like the idea of 3 canvases, perhaps of favorite family photos? I love to decorate with photos and this is a space you could do something really dramatic and fun. Since it is a neutral colored space you could go with a brightly colored photo and it would really pop. I do agree though that I don't think anyone will walk into your house and feel like "Oh wow something is so missing from that wall" however, it is a wonderful opportunity to do something creative and fun. I would do whatever is personally meaningful for you and highlight it in a large way.

Ooohh what about textile art/woven art? Adding texture with no fear of glass/plexi falling off the wall and bonking someone on the noggin!

A piece full of color and modern.

Or perhaps neutral, full of visual texture.

    Or bright and traditional?

Have you considered getting rid of it and continuing the railing?

Sammy- yes - that's actually what I had hoped to do! But it turned out to be too expensive of a project at this time, and I have very little kids so I figure less railing is probably safer.

I love the space and see it as a space for art or textiles. But then, I have a lot of artwork all over my house and love the look.

Leave. It. Blank. Its sounfortunate to have to crane your neck and squint to see a picture hung 10 ft and I've eye level. Of looks elegant and clean as is, and is not meant to be "decorated". I nice Chandelier however would visualy fill the space.

I agree with the chandelier idea!

I would leave it blank....from the image it looks like you might have done some patching...looks like it needs one more coat of paint so you can't see the shadows from the patching underneath....your railing looks very pretty so leave it blank.

Yes- thank you. We painted one more coat after this picture was painted. I love the idea of just leaving it blank and focusing on a pretty chandelier. Thanks for all the advice.

Did somebody say "chandelier"!? My favorite topic! What are you seeing for this space? Transitional? Modern? Traditional? Give me a clue and I will go shopping! (so to speak!)

    Flo Mangan- transitional.

this is a very nice "transitional" piece. Open, so doesn't block views yet has a sculptural feel to it.

I am guessing that you need about 24-28" wide by some 30+high since it is two story area. You might want a darker metal to stand out more against that white balcony wall.

The Crystorama Luna is a bit smaller and it has some great gold, which is really getting hot in the market. This is a little more modern. But the orb type chandelier is still quite popular.

This is interesting, it nods to the traditional with candles but has a modern flare to it.

Here is one that is a little more on the rustic side. But I'm trying to give you a range of options, so I can figure out what your leaning towards. Then we can hone in from there.

Not sure what you are looking for but I love this Lantern style chandelier for foyer it is in a champagne finish that is beautiful mixed with all metal finishes...it comes with some crystals for a more formal feel or without to give your space a simple elegant feel.
