Need help on exterior of townhouse

I just purchased this townhouse and am wondering what colors to paint the shutters, trim and front door. The tan brick color stays. The roof/shingles are a light gray. Thanks for all your help!

    Midnight blue or midnight green.

Blue will be pretty with your brick and roof. Congrats on the new place!

Agree the navy would be stunning. I would paint the door trim white/off white to match the window trim and the door BM Sea Star 2123-30 or BM Dinner Party AF-300

Are you part of an HOA? Are there exterior finish limitations?

Yes, I am part of an HOA, that is why the tan brick stays but I have some say in the trim colors--I just have to run it by them first.

Thank you all! I was thinking a darker color would help make the exterior pop, but I wasn't sure what darker colors to use.

Can you tell me what this is on the photo?

I see another house number (on a dark brown plate) - so I'd say the siding belongs to next door.

EP is right--that is the townhouse next door. My exterior on the bottom blends on into theirs.

I would say plum. If you are keeping the shutters maybe you can change them to solid vs slats. Paint the door alcove a soft white and the door too. I think I would try to do something with the bottom windows to create something that looks like 1 large window, eliminating the center shutters.

    Black would look classy!

Maybe you could update the mailbox and move it to the right and match the numbers, door hardware, mailbox, and light with the same finishes. I would also try to move the electrical box or paint it the same as your house. Another thing you could do is widen the front cement area and square it off.

Maybe put a light on each side of the door?

i would go with a,deeper taupe color tha that which is ,already on shutters, door dental & sidelights Fie door I would go w/a creamy pumpkin color.

cathyjoco, I was thinking that I should move that mailbox because it is on the opposite side of the door (and I need a larger box because the postal carrier puts the mail on the brackets below instead of in the small box so my mail is soggy when it has rained). And I did purchase a new black outside light to replace the brass light but was unsure if I should stick with the brass or go with the black.

Bernandine, I had not thought of the creamy pumpkin color

yes. get a new, larger mailbox by street. I would,stick,w/brass light fixture to match warm times in beige, taupe, pumpkin colors.

I would do olive shutters and a dark red ( burgundy) door.

Dark shutters just highlight the fact that there are 2 windows really crowded together and nothing on the left on the 2nd floor. Those windows are weird.

I'd keep the contrast between the shutters and the brick low so as not to draw attention to them (plus, they are clearly fake, so that's another reason not to highlight them). I'd limit a bold/contrasting color to the door itself.

Bernadine Designs again. I think what you need to do is keep a muted look - colors that softly blend into the exterior material of the house. The structure as it stands does not need to stand out with bold colored shutters. Sometimes less is more. Keep with the soft pastels of beige, taupe and soft pumpkin for door & your house will look like a million bucks - a fine English mable house. Good luck & post me a pix when done!

I like the shutters the color they are...

    I would do trim white

    What's your favorite color?

No matter how many times I look, the next door makes no sense to my eyes!! It's like an optical illusion.
