I would start at one end and go across buy do try to avoid going across in a straight line because it will look funny. Do about a six inch square in say the left hand corner and then maybe a four inch square adjoining and then another six inch square and then finish off the edge and then work your way back from right to left fillling in the smaller square. The squares on your right to left run should be different sizes than the ones on the left to right run. The point is you don't want it to look like you colored in a row of horizontal lines. Free motion quilting should be very random. A long arm quilter described it as making mickey mouse ears first in one direction and then in another. Use a thread that matches as closely as possible and don't worry about your errors. Nobody but you will notice them. Another tip,if you accidentally cross a line or find it necessary to cross a line, that's okay. The quilt police will not come after you.

You are right many of the stitches do not show up as I tried to use a color that would match a lot of the fabric. Next time I will do smaller areas than what I did today before moving on across the runner.
