Need help..New home...new design
I want to paint new color to grayish green color. I'm leaving the wood cabinets. Should I paint window trims and door white? or leave wood color trim?

Paint Cabinets or Not?

I looked at Nantucket Gray and it has a green tone to it so it might work. The cool grays do not work well with warm wood. Neither brings out the best in the other - why gray is so often paired with white. Warm wood tones look good with creams, soft beiges and blues and greens. The blues and greens can have gray undertones.

Be sure to get a sample jar and paint a large area and live with it a few days before making a final decision. Many recommend painting a sample board rather than a wall so you can carry it around to different areas that are in different light.

Go ahead and paint the trim, but leave your doors wood. Wood doors with white trim is a good look and gives the best of both - the brightness of the white with the warmth of wood:

Oak is not a paint grade wood because the texture of the grain shows through the paint. Many do paint anyway and are happy with it. It is an arduous task and unless you are a patient and experienced DIY person you should have them professionally painted - which is expensive. Your kitchen is fine as it is:)

I have white painted cabinets in my laundry room and wood in my kitchen. I live in an area with gray and snowy winters. During this time of the year I appreciate the warm tone of my kitchen while my laundry room feels cold. If you live in a different climate, you may prefer the white.

If at some time you decide to change out countertops, a farmhouse sink really helps blend the old with the new and works well in your style of kitchen. The Kohler Whitehaven "short apron" cast iron sink can be installed on a standard sink base. It is the sink I have and I love the size and function as well as how pretty it is. It is a bit pricey and I put off my countertops for a while to save up for it, and I am glad I did.

I painted a desk and hutch in my kitchen Nantucket Grey a few years ago and I still love it. It looks beautiful in both natural and artificial light and I always get compliments on it. It also looks nice with the red toned dark wood cabinets I have.
I was tempted to paint my cabinets too, but with little kids, paint is more prone to dings and chips than solid wood. So I guess it depends on the wear and tear your kitchen will be facing.

I didn't think about the cabinets getting scratched or chipped after being painted.

If you are thinking of new counters, wait to do the backsplash. Backsplash comes last and can get damaged when switching out counters. Also, your present counter has the small splash which if removed would affect the new backsplash. If you do not want to change countertops or want to stay with laminate, you will need an over mount farmhouse sink. The Ikea fireclay Domsjo is popular with some home bloggers and is the only over mount farmhouse sink I know of. It is much less than the Whitehaven, but also less durable. However, if countertops and backsplash are a few years off, it might suit you for a while.

Thanks for the kind word about my kitchen. I post it for those with oak cabinets so they know a refresh is possible without painting. The trend cycle is now about 10 years - impossible to keep up with:)
