Tiny, Tiny Cottage needs help with guest room

Here is a picture of my new bed and the nautical themed bedding I want to use to tie into the rest of my tiny cottage. I need help now choosing a headboard. The table/desk with chair on the right of the bed can be replaced but must be useful as I sit there to watch TV. This room is only 9 1/2 by 9 1/2 feet. You can see the sliding door (will have grills in soon) and next to the table/desk is a wall closet with built-in drawers and shelves. At the foot of the bed is a cabinet which will be replaced with a narrow console of some kind to hold the TV. Drapes (the room seems too small)? More pillows? A mirror over the table? You helped me so much with the living room that I can't wait now to have your advice on another room. Thanks.

OK, here's what I'm thinking. I moved the two tables and lamps from living room and centered the bed. What if I get a seagrass headboard? (has to be the dark one though to match my dark stuff in living/dining room, I know.... that's how I am.That room gets full sun all afternoon from the slider so I like the contrast of the dark as the room is very, very bright even with the shade down. Also, I am very symmetrical and I like the bed centered. I can't do much else until my family gets the other furniture out of the room. I have an idea for the chair but have to wait and see the space. Do you like this set-up better? OMG, now I have no tables or lamps in the living room! Now I'm going outside - it's beautiful and sunny! Oh, did you notice McNicky, the cat, who took over the new comforter??? I put a towel on it.

I thought of that when I was saying a distressed shutter, but thought you might think I was nuts ! LOL

I would put the bed in the corner, angled out....I would then get a bamboo screen and put it behind the bed which would give you a headboard, fill in the empty space behind the bed, add texture to your room and give it some height....

Well, Lynne, I AM nuts and don't hesitate to suggest anything, but people here are used to me. Actually it was you saying about the distressed shutter that made me think of it.

Readbetter, you are much more persistant than me, I have been trying to find a new bed for ages now, it is such a minefield with all the options plus being on a budget like you, the cost comes into it. I've just thrown in the towel and am going to keep my old bed (nothing wrong with it really). I threw the headboard out but it annoyed me anyway so decided I'm off to buy some inexpensive pillows and just do a pillow stack.

Ok Houzzers, here's what I'm going to do. I'm starting a whole new thread because the new pics I posted have gotten lost somewhere and I want you to see where I am now. I don't want to lose all your good ideas. Ill do it after work so be on the lookout!

I sometimes go against the rules in a really tiny room and instead angle the bed to a corner. This frees up windows on both sides of the bed and seems to open up more floor space.

I moved the nautical bedding up to the master bedroom. In trying to consolidate my final pictures, I think I might have confused. Sorry, if I did.

Your room is looking lovely. How about picking out that lovely bold blue from the bedding for a simple tufted headboard. A nice wow factor to finish off the room :-)

I really like the shutters flanking the window with the **lamps** mounted on the shutters. I would then use half-height shutters to make a headboard. Add a pleated blind for light control as needed. You could also then do a cornice over the top of the whole thing -- and you could have your lighting behind the cornice (saw this in a hotel and have been dying for a spot to do it!)

I'd paint the walls a blue that is in the spread and use white balloon curtains. Maybe even paint that furniture white, as well . It'll look like a little bed and breakfast guest room.

Why not a drift wood mirror, largish. This would give a more spacious feel. Perhaps a couple of statement nautical object d'art for your table: brass sextant or large wooden pulley.....

Yes, a very old thread but just for fun I'll show you how the bed turned out...upstairs master and loft for guests...little downstairs room became my TV room, office, library and has a sleeper sofa for extra guest. My tiny cottage is in good shape, very comfy and functional...thanks Houzzers! Look past the sheets covering new sofa...animal proofing!

Every decorating style test I took led me to a mix of modern, minimalist and transitional. That is probably why I always balk at the "stuff."

Anyway, this is the front of the house, all open...living and dining room.

I originally bought wingback chairs to put all together in LR but McDuff loves sleeping on the love seat and I didn't have the heart to get rid of it just yet so I put 2 in DR...I think it ties areas together...but you are the expert! Hope all is well with you and yours.

readbetter___when have you had a problem with empty? I would put a simple clear hurricane glass or a piece of driftwood with the shell mirror;) Maybe a battery operated candle in a lantern for a bit of evening ambiance?

Good morning. All looking great. Please leave McPelican on the wall, he is perfect there. Love the wing chairs and the options they give you and those cushions are perfect on them. I'm just so impressed with all your cushion choices, you have found some gorgeous ones.

I'm with Margo, leave the mantle very simple, a piece of driftwood would look great and just decorate it for the seasons or festive occasions - Christmas, Thanksgiving, a bowl of fresh flowers for spring. I have a lovely piece of driftwood I use in many different places and I love to incorporate it into seasonal or special occasion decorations for a simple, minimalist look.

I can't believe this thread has finally come back to life!!! I think of this little house often because it made such a statement to me. I LOVE IT!!! I, too, love small house living. Most people don't understand this concept. Bigger is NOT always better. Wishing you MANY years of pure happiness!!!
