Not sure what sort of "weighing in" you are looking for. You have the cabinet shown, and are looking for applause? You want something different in that same space?

I would suggest something similar to the above image. A typical French armoir has very ornate detailing and can look very "bedroom-y". The above image is stronger in aesthetic and would still be dramatic and make a statement - as well as being very functional also. The doors could be bi-folding very easily like you wanted.

Thank you for your advice! This is the "living room" and is what you see upon entry at the front door. I still wanted to be able to view the tv when using the room for larger gatherings. However, 90% of the time the doors would be closed. That's why I thought something more furniture-like would be a good idea. The cabinet shown was existing when we purchased the home.

Lots of ways to hide TV short of taking up prime floor space.

I think what you have already is beautiful, it flows so nicely with the architecture of your home. That being said

here is an idea of what it would look like with an armoire. ( don't know your decor style so it's just an example )

@designbug I use Adobe photoshop. My OH is a webmaster so it's quite expensive but there are much cheaper versions that you can get that would do the same thing. I hoped it helped you to visualize what it would be like without the built in.:)
