Both of those woods will go nicely with your white stair and blue/ grey scheme. Also, because there is no visual continuity (no direct adjacency either), using multiple types of wood will present no issues. Using multiple wood types in a single project often looks sketchy if they clash and are located in close proximity to each other. Good luck on your project!

Thanks! Actually I might ask your expert opinion while we are in communication - I have done the ground floor entirely open plan. The marmoleum kitchen floor wasn't quite what I had in mind so it's a blue ish grey marmoleum that meets my ash wood floor where the kitchen ends and dining room starts. I'm not happy with this space. The original plan had a pocket door form hall into kitchen that we removed from the plan, and now the front door opens directly into kitchen. I'm considering putting up a partition to reinstate the hallway, and wondering about whether to put up a screen or another partition to separate the kitchen out from the rest of the open plan as something about the two spaces doesn't mesh. We didn't have budget to do the underfloor heated polished concrete floors and had to work with the existing floors which were completely all over the place, so there is also an annoying perceptible slope up from kitchen to the dining where marmoleum meets ash. My fridge and washing machine are on a slant! I'll post some pics in a bit
