I wanted some color to break up all the white in my kitchen. I chose this blue glass subway tile but you can't go wrong with gray. Maybe a marble that is both gray and white.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that is too modern and trendy looking for me. I want to do something more traditional and that I will not get tired of in 5 years. I am leaning toward a gray and beige travertine stone. Was afraid to use that in the beginning because you have to seal it every year, but I have been told that they can seal it with a solution that will last at least 15 years.

You can find ceramic tile that looks like travertine, and would be more resistant to staining and would not need to be re-sealed. I think Imperial Flooring had some good ideas. Here are a few other colorful options
