Dear Elizabeth, Thank you for your inquiry. I am trying to think back to my selections with the cabinet maker. I am remembering the wood species as Anigre but don't have the specs handy to confirm. It has a clear coat finish with no stain. You might be able to achieve this look with quarter sawn cherry as well. If you show this photo to your cabinet maker, I bet they will be able to direct you to the species with this effect too. Have fun! Karlene
