Here's a Doug fir stump that didn't die when cut down. It's roots were connected to another Doug Fir and the stumped grew over itself. I've seen it often, but this is larger than normal. The interior is mostly rotted out. It died when the large tree connected to it blew over.

Here's a real small beryl that almost goes all the way around the branch

that doesn't suprise me...have a look at the original picture and you can see that trunk taking a sharp turn left...looks manmade...

Yeah, that's what the Wikipedia article said too. I followed some of the links in the article and found out that you can order expensive grand pianos with custom wood veneers. The most expensive of those expensive grand pianos can be ordered with veneers of burled maple, burled walnut, etc.

The downside is that burls are often poached!
