I would move the front door forward. and paint the door a darker shade of the same color as your trim

Paint the siding and ceiling in your covered porch a white color with a slight gray undertone - something like the mortar in your brick. That will lighten up the narrow entry porch. You have a beam going across the porch - it will be a natural point for a color change. Paint the front door the gray trim color or black.

Paint the garage doors a darker color, preferably to blend with the brick or at least the grout or the color of the trim on the roof line. This will give more emphasis the to white entrance door.

Right now from the curb, there's an expanse of white that screams, "Welcome to my garage!" instead of "Welcome to my home."

I'd distribute your handsome trim color a bit more across the house, to tame the garage and balance it off with shutters on the left. Then, a lighter front door will welcome visitors and tie in with the bit of window trim and side gutter we see.

And when you can, I love hadenart's idea of incorporating the front "hole" as a front "hall" inside rather than outside the home. It doesn't have to be all the way flush with the garage brick wall -- leave a foot or so for dimensionality, but bring it forward making it more visible and giving you a bit of a vestibule. ...and perhaps trim the lowest row of branches from the tree out front -- hard to see whether that's possible. Low growing greens and whites in front of the big window, along the drive and walk, too.

I think I would paint the rain gutter to match the bricks and I would add an exterior light to each side of the garage and eliminate the floodlights.

Maybe: paint the garage door the same as the trim in your entry and then the door (and the storm door) high gloss black.

Gosh - I gotta start remembering to look at the original post date. The other day I responded to something that had been posted in 2012 or some other ancient date!

I've returned :-) multiple times...still making small improvements as we go! Best thing we did was paint "fake" windows and installed carriage door handles. Thank all of y'all for the input :-)

Some changes

Since you have a garage house, It would be best to minimize the garage doors in any way you can. Then play up your entry and windows. Perhaps add some nice thick molding to the windows?

I like the perennial border you added. Since spring gardening season is upon us, you could carry your green thumb over to the garage and flank it with some attractive planters. The addition of matching carriage lights would be nice, too.

A Red Door might be nice, make it a cool tone red (blue-red), NOT a warm tone red (orange-red) since your brick appears to be a cool tone brick, not an orange brick.

Perhaps a soft sea foam blue in the same tone as your trim only a pastel version, or a pastel/muted green. Enjoy!

Just saw this doorway and thought of you. Here's the page link to a pastel door with a brick surround on Houzz. I think it is a more orange-red brick than yours, but you will get the idea that I talked about on 4/29/14.
