Interesting use of the mirror to heighten the very low wide space.

I don't know what you mean by decorate, but I would remove the mirror(...or hole? Window?) An get a square mirror that visually heightens the fireplace.

The accent color should shouldn't go above the 2 corner of the room. Don't go all the way to the top, as I think that will disrupt the rhythm of this awkward yet quirky wall.

What do you think about adding more built-in bookcases above the mantel?

dianabreen, what do you mean adding more bookcases over the mantel?

Lovely room! Since it has a neutral background, I'd try pillows in one or two deep saturated colors -- orange, red, blue, purple, etc. -- whatever you love. (Look in your clothes closet for inspiration.)

I agree the mirror, although beautiful, is too much for that space. I love Beverly's ideas for horizontal artwork along that wall. The pieces over the sofa might work if you have several pieces. If you decide to go in that direction, I'd choose the artwork first, then look for complimentary pillows. Have fun decorating your warm, inviting living room.

I personally love your huge mirror. It feels sort of minimal modern to me. Maybe just 2 large vases on the long mantel. Not even matching. Maybe a white one and another that ties in your accent color. I could see citron or bright yellow in moderation as an accent...

Hi Sadiesue,

I love your rug, is that Crate and Barrel?

The rug is crate and barrel Alvarez rug natural. Thanks.

A dramatic chrome arc lamp to replace the small corner lamp on the right would help balance out the oversized mirror if you're keeping it.
