Sorry for your kitty. It looks very sore. There is something called "cat acne," but I'm not sure this is it. Please get her to a vet as soon as you possibly can. Call for an appointment now because if they book up, you might have to wait even longer.

What type of plating do you use to feed your cat? Years ago, I had a cat that would only eat soft food so I would just use paper plates. At some point I noticed that his chin looked exactly like your cat's. I took him to the Vet and the Vet said that I needed to avoid using the paper plates because they have a topical treatment on them that is irritating his skin. Use ceramic or metal and it would heal. I did what the vet said and wha la, it was gone within a fairly short time. So my best guess is that whatever he's eatting from could be an irritant to his skin.

That said, this isn't an urgent life threatening issue so I understand why you are trying to resolve the problem on your own. However, there are online vets who can offer some educated guidance and their services are a fraction of the cost of a clinic visit. If the suggestions here are not applicable, you may want to consult an online vet service to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

I would use the metal bowl. I also suggest Blue Buffalo. The chicken and brown rice. It has no wheat, corn, or soy, which my cat is allergic to apparently. I had tried everything, including vet prescribed food,Royal Canin. I also tried Fromm's, which he liked, but it didn't have enough fiber in it and too much protein. Don't get the Blue Wilderness, that didn't work for me either. I know that Origen and Fromm's are supposed to be better food, and I am sure they are for some cats. Get the dry, that won't get on his lip.

That is most likely a rodent ulcer. I had two cats, litter mates, that looked a lot like yours. They passed a couple of years ago at 18 years old. They presented with these ulcers when they were young. It is a virus that is usually picked up from the mother when they are very young. It is similar to cold sores in a human in the way that they will occasionally pop up for no apparent reason. The only thing that young can do is take her to the vet for medication. If you don't, the ulcer will start to eat away at the cats face, and whatever damage is done, is permanent. It is is not a big deal, and the medication is not expensive, but it can be really unfortunate for your kitty if you do not get her help. Google it. I would be willing to bet money that your kitty has a rodent ulcer. That is exactly what it looked like on my male kitty, Sebastian. My female usually presented with swelling under her top lip, but my male looked exactly like yours. Please take your kitty to the vet.

I know someone who's cat has this same problem. It was caused by eating from a plastic bowl. I'd switch to ceramic or stainless steel... I will try to find out what treatment if any the vet did and get back here....

I just looked and her cat's mouth looked exactly like yours and the vet said it was a mouth ulcer. I ask her what treatment was required...... will get back with what she says

Just hear.. they gave her cat a steroid injection then some to take orally at home... looks like a trip to the vet is required...

I'm not sure how vet prices are in your area but she said it cost the vet visit and the medicine was 35.00

I only use glass dishes for my pet. The vet says plastic is porus and bacteria can grow quickly even if washed daily, plastic scratches and food debris get trapped than the bacteria grows.

The steroid is treatment for a rodent ulcer. It has nothing to do with the bowl that the cat eats from. It is a virus that lives in their system and periodically causes an ulcer. It is usually passed from the mother when she grooms the kittens when they are young. If I were a bettin' woman, I would bet that your cat has a rodent ulcer.

Agree fully with jilldag. My male cat has had a rodent ulcer for at least 10 years on his upper lip. It is not as bad as that of your cat, and, like a cold sore/herpes sore, is sometimes dormant, sometimes not. Jilldag knows what he/she is talking about. It is indeed painful to the cat and yours looks bad. It is treatable. Please get the cat to a vet. There is indeed such a think as cat acne from dishes but this is NOT that.

Sounds like a vet trip asap. It will only get worse. I still would change to glass or metal bowls. Also try the food I suggested. Buy the smallest bag available and keep the receipt. My pet stores will take food back even opened with a receipt.

I just notice mine was eating tilting his head hours later (Tuesday midnight) notice upper lip right side swelled just a bit. I get home same day both sides of upper lip swollen.. Due to the coronavirus the Vets are having different hours plus one person at a time in the clinics makes it hard to get a ASAP appointment.. but made one for him on Thursday. He seems like he is in pain he won’t let me pick him up or pet him. He only comes when he wants to eat.. is there anything I can give him until his appointmen?

did you figure out any medicine to give your cat?? mine has a bit of a swollen lip but when we took her to the vet it was going to be $600 for a medicine who I don’t have due to the pandemic. any tips love ??
