why paint? what does the wood look like, currently?

IMO this is only done in low traffic spaces like a bedroom with a big rug unless you love that whole “shabby chic “ on steroids look . Maybe send some pics for us to get a feel for what you want .

A high-end flooring paint is the way to go. It takes a lot of work to get it done. Many of these need multiple coats and a top coat. Then the whole thing needs to cure/harden properly (kinda like a polyurethane floor finish).

Once you are done, this will start to "patina" within a few years. Patina means it will slowly wear through (showing the wood below), chipping, scratching, etc. It is a cool look if you are into it. Once it is done, it is almost impossible to get rid of the paint...which means it is almost impossible to refinish the wood in a traditional manner. A wood floor that doesn't have any life left in it (ie. it can no longer be refinished because it is too thin/old) is a great "paintable" wood floor. You aren't losing anything. In fact you gain another 5-10 years of use.

If this floor is relatively young and has 40-60 years of life in it, then painting it pretty much ends the lifespan right away. It would be considered the death knell for a new(er) wood floor.
