Inexpensive Kitchen Refresh

With much help from the Houzz community we just finished our kitchen refresh. I chose the terracotta floors about a year ago-and I hated them! So the goal of this refresh was to give the kitchen an affordable facelift and compliment the floors. Here's what we did: new lighting, walnut countertops, copper sink, new faucet, hardware, create a shrine to coffee at the far end of the kitchen, relocate the refrigerator. (Previously the fridge was crammed into the adjacent dining area. With the fridge properly in the kitchen we can utilize the dining area for dining!) Total cost: about $9000. Total work days: 8.

When I saw your first picture I thought, "Pretty floor, something different, yet traditional." So I was surprised when I read you hated the floor tiles at the end of the post. So glad you kept them and reworked your kitchen finishes. What you added and changed in your kitchen was spot on in bringing everything together. Beautiful. I bet it is a delight to wake up to that in the morning.

The space is so much more cohesive with these subtle changes. Switching the dining area to a coffee area creates a much better flow. Great job!

Beautiful countertops. You may want to check with the pros @ John Bridge tile forum. I think I recall a post about staining to change the color of saltillo tile. PS...I've never liked it either.

Beautiful sink! Can I ask what brand that faucet is? I am getting a copper sink.

@Dyan You will love having a copper sink. It was so care-free. We have since moved and done another kitchen remodel-this time with a white enamel sink-and I sometimes miss our hammered copper sink. I believe that was a Moen faucet. We got it from Home Depot for around $250 and it worked flawlessly. In our new house I “upgraded” to a fancy Perrin & Rowe faucet. It’s beautiful but it is nowhere near as good as the faucet in the photo above.

Thank you Gini! I am ordering my hammered copper sink today. I'm a bit nervous but I've done a ton of research and the Haven brand seems to be great with no maintenance! The faucet I am also looking at is Moen in an oil rubbed bronze. https://www.moen.com/products/Brantford/Brantford_Oil_rubbed_bronze_onehandle_high_arc_kitchen_faucet/7735ORB I hope it's not too dark! I'm old fashioned. I still want the side sprayer. I struggle with those pull down sprayers for some reason! I hope you love your new home! Thanks again for answering!

Looks great! Love the solid look of the bar pulls on the cabinets, and, wow, that countertop is gorgeous! The front entry way looks much brighter and welcoming in white, good work!
