Love the fabrics. Would it be possible to make the block 9 inches? Then make 25 blocks and it would be a nice size throw and a place for everyone to sign. You could put a sleeve on the back so it could be used as a wall hanging, too.

I don't think I'd worry about size. Go with whatever size makes your life easier. It's more of the memento aspect than utility. They'll love whatever you do.

My suggestions are regarding the signatures.

Have the guests sign the fabric before you sew the blocks/quilt and tape off the edges/seam allowances with blue painters tape, or something similar. Too often some non-sewers sign near the edge and not in the center where the quilter had visualized.

You can get more guests signing quickly if they are signing side-by-side on individual pieces of fabric.

Have some extra pieces just in case somebody spills red wine or something. (Another advantage of signing the fabric before the quilt is made.)

Remove the signed ones from the table to a safe place.

When I did one, I cut the pieces ahead and much larger than needed. Then I drew squares with a Frixion pen on each and asked people to sign within that square, which later irons off. Note that pigma pens wash out even when they say permanent. Test any pens first. I found the fine tipped Sharpie lasted through more washes. So go armed with appropriate pens as well.

Thanks all for your input! My intent is to provide a finished quilt for all to sign at the reception, not to assemble after signing. If I do it that way, it doesn't matter too much where they choose to sign.

Good idea about the sharpie vs. the pigma pens..I'll do a test. I was intending to have the pens on the quilt table for guests to use at the reception. Maybe I can color coordinate the pen colors to the fabric! Ok, that could be too much!

If a little red wine spills, well that will just provide some more character and memories for the couple (but I'll be close by just in case!)
