Looks are important along with basic function - how much air it moves (CFM) and how much noise it makes (sone). Many appliance stores show installed appliances in mock-up kitchens. I do suggest you also go to an appliance store and see appliances in person before you buy. What does it sound like? How do the buttons and controls work for you? Do you like the lighting? You'll likely be using your hood every day, so it is well worth the investment in time to get to know your appliances before you buy. :) Rhoda
