Need help with my Retro Renovation.

Hi. We love our cottage style, mid century home, but would like to give

new life to our kitchen. The tile has chips and I cannot find replacement tile so we want to replace it. It seems like a white quarts would be nice. We are thinking to replace the laminate while we are at it, but to keep the retro feel we would keep the rounded edge on the bar. After that we are looking for ideas for the backsplash and to paint or not paint the canbinetry. Any thoughts or ideas?

If you want to keep the retro feel, why not redo all the laminate with new laminate? Many retro kitchens have been redone on houzz with quartz, etc., and (my opinion only) they lose something of the feel by doing so. It becomes "muddled"

I agree in staying with laminate countertops, like Formica. (Besides staying true to the style, it's quite cost effective too.) Head over to a site like retrorenovation.com for some inspiration. I love your natural cabinets. Cute kitchen!

Love the retro look! I have some photos which might help. The first thing I would do is paint the cabinets. I hate to say white; I would probably paint them cream. Although I lovelovelove the steel cabinets! But be sure to match the handles of the top cabinets with the bottom ones.

As for the backsplash, I've noticed many retro kitchens just have it painted to match the walls but have cool things mounted.

I don't like all the things about this pic, but I like the clock and little knick knacks above the stove. If you put tile back there and opt for white cabinets, a yellow pattern in the tile will help bring in the yellow of the walls.

The lighter colors of the cabinets will really cheer the kitchen up. Can you get a laminate counter top around the sink with the metal edge? That would be cool.

Don't forget the floor. Checked laminate (love laminate) to match the tile on the backsplash would look great. Good luck!
