Changing a roof is not a minor change at all. What I wanted to show is that you do not have to demolish a house to bring about drastic changes. The doors, windows and deck were all second hand, so it does not have to cost a fortune either.

I think you did a good job, but the word 'only' is a bit of an understatement...:-)

Your headline is the issue. You stated "by only". And clearly more was done than the roof and a couple of walls. It does show a nice remodel. Perhaps if you had started with "using second hand materials this home underwent a dramatic transformation it would have made more sense."

Apart from the proffesional roofers we used, the renovations were done by myself, 2 day labourers and a lovely old gentleman who told us what to do. The house is situated in Jeffreys Bay ,South Africa and is a self catering guest house. So if you want to visit this surfing mecca, you know where to stay.

I would of liked to see more pictures. What a vision everyone had. Great job!

Wow, is right! I see only two things that might need some thought: Above the windows on the left, there is too much blank space. It makes the windows look too small. Would it be in keeping with the spirit of the remodel to paint a stripe (or two or three) of the bright color(s) horizontally there - all the way across that section? If yes, I have no idea how you would determine proper width to bring balance. Second, looks like you have rust or ? making marks down the cement from the ironwork.

Thanks for sharing, nice to see a project from South Africa, since I'm used to seeing photos from where we live in California, USA. I wondered about the old colors and they reminded me of the beach. So Iooked up your town of Jeffreys Bay to learn that indeed it is at the beach with great surfing. What a beautiful place to live! :) Rhoda

It is a beautiful beach town with excellent waves for surfing, horse rides on the beach where you can watch dolphins and whales play and game lodges close by-something for everyone. I own a beach front restaurant ( called De Viswijf restaurant) and the photo attached is my view every day. I do renovations as a hobby.

For those of you who don't speak Afrikaans or Dutch, De Viswijf, means "The Fishwife," we also see this name on on fish / seafood restaurants in the U.S. :) Rhoda
