Add drapery panels, an area rug and a bit of color with different throw pillows.

Take off the cushions and add some with pattern and a bit of colour, remove the coffee table which is too small for the space and replace with a large ottoman. Add a rug.

Where is your tv going?

TV will have to go in the right wall as you come in, I was thinking a closed entertainment piece, maybe. The furniture will need to be replaced, but not sure with what. The room also has a doorway opening to the kitchen. Furniture configuration is another problem.

It looks like a room you just walk through instead of actually sitting in. It needs color and warmth and a larger coffee table. I would start with taking everything off the shelves. Too much stuff. A picture from the other side would help.

If you need a TV in here, I would remove shelves on the far right bookcase, and build in in there. That way, your focal point for your furniture remains on the fireplace (& TV). Replace the coffee table with a larger one - wood would be nice to tie in with your hardwood floors and give the room natural warmth. Then add color with patterned and colored pillows, and paint a color on the back of your bookcase. Group your furniture closer to the fireplace wall, and that also gives you room to walk behind to your kitchen opening. If you post more pictures of the room with different angles of each wall, that would be helpful.

Putting the tv in the bookcase is a good idea. Could you then move around your furniture so that the sofa faces the fireplace and the chair has its back to the window. The furniture then needs to be closer to the fireplace. Put a console table behind the sofa to help use that space or even better a sideboard against the back wall (do you have a picture of the other wall, that would help)

I agree curtains will also help a lot.

Your house looks like it might be quite large. I would find another room for the main TV and use this room for entertaining guests. Your sofa and chair are too far apart to acutally form a cohesive conversation group. Several have mentioned a larger coffee table for sure. You could use a few more chairs to make it a really usable room for guests. Try moving the chair that matches the sofa back in front of the bookcase in the left of the picture turned in at an angle. Then fill the space where the large chair was with a pair of chairs with some color. Your room looks too formal for a TV room. Imagine 2 of the chairs below in a pale aqua side by side.

The pillows on the couch need to go. They date the look instantly. Then you really have a blank slate to start with . You need some bold pattern or color in there. Personally, I would also get a big inspiring piece of art to get started. The one you have is too small.

Oh, I just read that you are replacing your couches. Seriously girlfriend, you need to start looking around at artwork and houzz rooms to get inspired first. Something besides beige or neutral. The room has awesome potential. Honestly, I would hire a decorator and pay someone to devise a plan for you but you need to have some idea of what YOU love. Art always helps.

Paint the two columns around the bookcase and the inside of the bookcase the same color. Put the couches facing each other and put pillows on couch that have some of the colors from the bookcase. Also, put a sofa table behind the couch that faces the entrance.

FIRST, you must lower the picture over the sofa so that the bottom of the picture is just 5" or 6 " above the back of the sofa. Yes, I know this won't seem right to you at first but it is the correct position so trust me on this. The "rule" for determining the size of painting to go over the sofa is the picture should be at least 2/3 the size of the couch. So, if the sofa is 90" long then the painting including frame should be at least 60" long. I would replace the loveseat and get two chairs like the style above in pale aqua. Yes, you could easily save enough money to but a really fabulous oil painting that woud do wonders for your room. These are both 60 x 48. Here's one for over the fireplace, too.

Look in magazines--beige is very popular now. It isn't dated or out of style. So accessorize, get a new coffee table and some fabulous paintings and 2 cool chairs. Please re-think this room as a TV room. Windows make a screen hard to see-- too bright and too much glare.
