Following your thread. We purchased a house last summer with a 30+ year old cedar shake shingle roof and State Farm flipped out when writing the policy on our new home. We need to replace/add some gutters in the spring and are considering roof replacement options. We live in the Midwest where cedar shake shingles are not as common as in other areas. Apparently it has been maintained but it will need repairs in spring which is why we are looking for alternatives. The synthetics from DaVinci referenced above look nice in photographs. I am curious to see if other Houzzers have used them.

The DaVinci roof looks great, but from a little research it seems as though the cost is very close to that of real cedar shake. The upside is that the DaVinci roof is more durable. That sounds like a good option, but we can't afford the cost, so are hoping to find another option that has a similar look but a better price point.

I'm looking for input from people who have had Davinci or EcoStar synthetic slate. We need to replace our cedar shake roof and have been looking at synthetic for a long time. We're unsure about how it will hold up over time and would love to hear from someone who has it!

We ended up going with DaVinci synthetic skate and LOVE how it turned out. I am so happy with the look and while it's only been on a couple years now, it still looks brand new!

Oh great! Did they turn out to be more affordable than the cedar?
