We are in the process of redesigning our kitchen in our home built in 1928.

The dilemma we are currently facing is choosing a vent hood. We really do like the look of a commercial style vent hood but are concerned with the how far they stick out. I am 6' tall and am concerned that I might hit my head on a vent hood that sticks out 24". The vent hood that is currently installed, a Fabyka which is deafening loud and does not have much suction, is mount at about 5'6" form the floor and is 18" deep and I have no problems with hitting my head.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Additionally any recommendations on brands or specif units would be great too. With the exception of the gas range which is an Electrolux Icon, all of the other appliances are stainless steel KitchenAid.
