Your TV placement bothers me more than your fireplace stone. Are you doing something with the cords etc.? I suppose the cheapest fix would be paint the stone. The wall color you chose fights it.

You can stain the stones. Your home improvement store can help with the right product. Replacing the hearth with new tiles should be a fairly straightforward project. The whole thing can probably be done for $100 or so.

I think the fireplace is gorgeous and doesn't read pink at all. What style is the rest of the house?

I am a “hate a t v in the living room” person, so I say the t v goes any where else you can put it.

Paint the bricks black and hang a great canvas over it.

If the t v must stay, sob, work with your electrician to have everything behind the wall. No need for all those wires, etc.

Does your TV have to be there, or is there another room where it can go? Your fireplace reads on my screen as russet red, not pink--kind of a warm earthy color. Think about putting reclaimed wood bookshelves to flank each side, then place a TV there. Yes, you might have to downsize your TV, but you'll gain a cozier living room. Otherwise, keep the TV over the fireplace, but built in reclaimed wood bookshves on either side will add visual interest. And please fill the fireplace with a lot of chunky wood logs that will take the emphasis off the TV.

IMHO the fireplace is great and can work. Would hate to see that beautiful stone painted! Stain MAYBE, but not paint. The tv is the problem. Maybe big art or floor to ceiling shelves on each side of fireplace would detract? Best wishes on reaching a solution --enjoy your new home!

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, there is no other place for the TV to go, though we have discussed creating something recessed down the line, so it may be possible to hide. We are are also planning to tuck the wires into the wall-- just haven't gotten there yet!

We are planning to put in built-ins on either side of the fireplace. I had thought just simple white, but I like the idea of reclaimed wood shelves to tie in the color better... Definitely going to look for some ideas on that.

Since we currently have no art (or a rug!) in the room, I agree those would help tie the current fireplace into the rest of the room. I'll keep an eye out for colors that would work well together.

I would plan for a long term project. I would come up with a plan to go over much of what is there with a wooden surround and mantel (painted white) that would extend out beyond the brick a little. The part of the brick that shows (for noncombustible clearances) would be painted black. You can install a black hearth stone to replace the green.

The brick here were not removed but were covered up with the trim surround. The brick around the opening were painted black. In this case we tore out some of the sheetrock and created a niche behind the new tv so that we could run the wiring in the walls and not have any of it showing. We had to run wiring from the armoir to the tv in the wall and then repair the walls. Then you would repaint the wall.

A white fireplace would look stunning. I like Brickwood Builders, Inc. suggestion above - covering it up with trim surround.

Sometimes a vexing design problem looks much worse when there's nothing else for the eye to look at. Here are some rustic fireplaces with flanking reclaimed shelves and TV over fireplace. Flanking bookshelves or floating shelves would enhance the existing fireplace.

More rugs in earth, gray, blues, touch of russet red. If you click on the image, it offers up more examples in similar colors.

More art with blue, gray, reds. Just suggestions of color mixes that incorporate what you already have in your room. There are many examples at all price levels and styles that you may like if you do a search in your existing colors.

I don't have anything in the file where we purchased the paint, so I am sure we left it up to the painter to determine which of the Sherwin Williams products to use. The color is Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. The paint does have a sheen to it. If I remember correctly, the painters used some type of specific primer and then painted. We painted the brick before we installed the wooden surround and painted just enough of the brick back to a point where we were sure the old color wouldn't show.
