Blueberries in a container

I'm planing to plant blueberries this spring in pots or containers but I want to put the container into the soil.

The reason why I want to put them in containers is:

1. they need acidic soils which will be easier to manage within a container

2. There are tree roots in the area

I don't want the containers to be standing on the ground so I figured I'll just dig a hole and put the containers into the soil.

The spacing between the plants will be 3' and I'll have 3 plants so the containers will be 36" plastic pot (if I can find one that big) or a rectangle plastic storage container 36" wide. For the height I would something around 15-20". From what I read blueberries don't have deep root system and I don't want to break my back digging the holes.

They say spacing needs to be 3'-4' between blueberries. Does that also apply to the root system? What if I use smaller containers but space the plants

Have any one done this?

Will I have any issues with the water drainage?

Any other problems I'm not thinking about yet?

Thanks.
