Fuchsia is stunning, but maybe to feminine for my husband. My great room has a red sofa with purple rug, so I am not afraid of color.

I can tell color is your friend, so I selected with that in mind. If you are thinking about large art on that long wall, then I agree the chair rail has to go. Just depends on the look you want. I actually like the very dark gray wall treatment because it creates a wonderful backdrop for you table, and lighting and then leaves plenty of room for creative color additions. Ben Moore Kendall Charcoal might be worth a sample board.

The dark gray would also go with all the other colors you might have or think of having in the new home. It is very neutral really. Of course, I have to admit, I do love intimate dark walls in dining rooms. Makes for restful, casual conversation and cozy interactions.

How important is it for the new dining room color to harmonize well with the main neutral in the house Manchester Tan and Swiss Coffee ceiling?

As you come into the foyer which is Manchester Tan, you see the M Tan great room in front of you. The dining room is seen to your left from the foyer, so I want the colors to complement each other.

Had purple before in old house. Fuschia might be too feminine. So, maybe something like BenM's Carter Plum CW-355. It's not red, it's not fuschia, it's not purple but it's somewhere in between.

All the images I've seen online are totally off and awful. Grab a chip.

Caponata is a great eggplant color. Also love Hale Navy.

My dining area is small. 12' square. Beutiful paint colors. These colors look so rich and I think they would blend with my drapes. I need to go get some chips of these suggestion. A computer doesn't give the best view of color. I do like the Stunning color on my monitor.

Stunning is great, but you do have to do samples in your room. Remember, dark colors "recede" and so although it seems to defy logic dark colors make small rooms look bigger!

Good advice to try samples first

Get foam board in white or SW has great sample boards that are primed and ready to go for sample color. They really are great. Cost a little, but overall so do the foam boards. If you don't use a white base, then you get color distortion. Paint with two coats just like you would do the wall. With the deep colors, you probably will have to buy a gallon of the paint because they use the deeper base paints. Just ask and see what they can do. Let each coat of paint dry thoroughly. Just like dark nail polish these darker pigments take longer to dry. This will give you a pretty good idea of the color then. Painting patches on your wall, is not a good idea, especially with the strong color you already have. It will influence things. Your beautiful table, against the deep blues will be fantastic! Great chandelier, some nice art and done! Gorgeous! I can see it in my minds eye now.

Here is Van Duesen Blue on the color board with the drapes and one piece of art. The bottom pic gives a glimpse of my cream dining room chairs. My pics aren't that great to capture the color, but I think this is it! I tried BM Stunning since I love purple. Looking at Stunning, I wanted it to be it. Stunning is a great color, but the Van Duesen really surprised me. Flo, your inspiration pic of the dining room with the cream chairs really helped me. What do you think? Now I have to pick a color for my windowless guest bathroom.

Here is another pic of the dining room that I am getting ready to paint. Ceiling has been painted as well as window trim. Haven't broken the news to the painters that we will paint out the chair rail with the same paint as the wall.

The color is much deeper than shows on that color board, but I just know the Van Deusen will be gorgeous. You better tell the painter fast about the chair rail, because that could be painted in an oil based paint so he/she needs to know that and get it primed properly or you will have potentially peeling paint. It also will take less man hours to do the job after the proper prepping is done. What color did you paint the ceiling?

The paint is latex, so we are good to go. The ceiling is white. The painter suggested that I come back and paint center with a color. Too many decisions! Do you have a suggestion for the ceiling?

If you did the dark blue walls, I was imaging a antique gold ceiling!

Painters finished the dining room. I had them to paint out the chair rail as suggested. It is a lovely shade of blue. Here is the dining room and a picture leading to the foyer. The adjoining rooms are painted in BM Manchester Tan.

The painter suggested that the center of the tray ceiling be painted a color, so I that may still be an option. My pictures via cell phone are not capturing the true color of the paint. But, it is lovely in person.

Did you go with the Van Deusen?

Yes, I did go with BM Van Duesen. I took pictures with my cell phone which didn't capture the color as it appears in person. I'll take my real camera and take a couple of pictures.

I do have a chandelier, but it is a silver builder's basic with globes that hang down and show the light bulbs which I don't get excited about. You nailed it. I have been looking a some. I even looked at Esty and there are some folks who can make one if I don't find one. Now that I have the image of the gold ceiling with the gold drapes, I may change the drapes! I think I can use my current drapes in my breakfast area. So, I am going to explore this option. Then I can color coordinate the drapes with the ceiling. Funny how changing the paint color and seeing pictures really inspire decorating to a higher level. Flo, I sincerely appreciate your help and encouragement. Houzz has such a wonderful community willing to share and provide guidance and feedback which is incredible. The experience makes my life better!

I want a contemporary look. I like the gold spiky one in the pictures.

I moved in the house yesterday. My husband is playing the game of "where is my..." and driving himself crazy since he didn't label his boxes. Too many decisions about everything at the moment. I'm going to pause for awhile since I am changing out bedroom carpet for hardwoods. So, this means sanding, polyurethane, mess in the house. I'm not in a hurry and I want to make thoughtful decisions. And determine how much is left in my budget!

I am loving this with your design ethos. I did this little mock-up, but I couldn't block out the current fixture. But I could see this over your round wood table. It is 32" long so it would really make a statement and it isn't that expensive either. Only 2 left! A little over $600. We can investigate further if you have an interest.

Just to pump up your creative juices, here is your room with that chandelier and gold drapes! haha!

Wow! Beautiful combination of draperies and light fixture. The chandelier is an art piece. Very unusual.

It is unusual, which is why I picked it for you. You are an extra-ordinary person, I sense! That fixture is $629 or something like that. You have to measure to see if it would drop down enough, but it drops 32" so it could be great. There is another one like it that hangs from chains if you need longer. Just let me know. I'll try to hunt it up for you. With your design style, I just think something other than a contemporary typical chandelier would be perfect! But of course, I don't know you, I am just assuming from what you say and the pictures you have posted.

It weighs 42 pounds. I have never had that heavy of a light fixture. My ceilings are 10', but I need to measure this one since it is vaulted.

Irene - I think Houzz has been experiencing lots of IT problems and things are posting right at all. So, beverette1 has already painted the dining room the BM Van Deusen Blue. Love that fascia though!

I meant they "are not posting right at all." Old posts are popping up, "bookmarking is backwards, etc." I have left a "contact" message but just get standard response that problem is on my end, when I know it is not. Growing pains I think.
