Will probably use butcher block countertops and wood floors. I like the farmhouse kitchen style.

Painting could work well, but also consider getting some quotes for refacing the cabinet fronts, especially if the cabinet boxes are in good shape.

Yes, I would paint the cabinets, wood paneling and dental molding white. I would remove what looks like wallpaper and the scalloped wood piece over the sink area. A new dishwasher would go a long way in updating the space as well but not sure if that could fit in the budget. Those few tweaks would go a long way in updating this space.

You could also think two-tone as well. Farmhouse style is all about texture, warmth, and an inviting ambiance.

I would suggest painting the paneling but leave the mantel and surround the wood, just clean it up a bit. The warmth will add character and speak back to the butcher block countertops.
