Gap in window trim forming

I had a new window installed a couple years ago in my 2nd story bathroom. All was fine until this winter when the bathroom has been very cold. This is the only window in the room, and we have no bathroom fan and plenty of insulation in attic. I looked at the outside of the window and can see a gap in the miter joint of the trim in the corner where the 2 pieces of trim meet. Their is a 5 year warranty on the installation of the windows. I called them to come look at it and they just want to caulk that joint and not replace the trim. What do you think is the cause of the gap in that trim? Do you think that is a okay solution to just caulk it and not replace the trim? Here is a picture of the gap in the trim http://imgur.com/a/97upN  and another http://imgur.com/YHybA1P
