I had rosemary in Phoenix, growing in a similar situation: no morning sun, then blasted from noonish until almost sunset.

It loved it! It was watered by a drip system, getting soaked infrequently but regularly.

Make sure you water it deeply and often enough to get it established the first summer, and after that they are pretty drought tolerant.

I have a rosemary in Southern California and it's been going strong for a few years now so the heat shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure it gets enough water.

Agree, water regularly until well established, then water consistently. Make sure when you plant that the hole has good drainage. If you find the soil is drying out too fast or the plant looks too stressed, you can use mulch to help keep the root zone cool and slow down water evaporation in the soil.

Also, some varieties of rosemary are more adapted to hot climates than others. So that's something to check before you buy.

I'm new to gardening and live in Pasadena, CA. It is usually about 5 or 10 degrees hotter than Los Angeles. I don't have a yard but I do have a large patio and plan to try growing lavender and rosemary in pots. The patio gets full sun all day. When you say regular watering, does that mean daily? Or consistently deep watering every week or something like that. Thank you!

Plants being grown in containers will require much different care than those being grown in the ground. It will depend on the size of the container and to some degree, the potting mix. Impossible to give you an exact frequency - you water before the soil becomes completely dry - but I'd guess every couple of days in the heat of summer.

And you always want to water fully when you do - so the water fully hydrates all the potting soil and runs freely from the drain holes.

Prostrate Rosemary is grown in cement parking lot planters all over Phoenix....

I grow culinary Rosemary in a large pot. It gets automatically watered several times a week, but when it gets over 100 it needs water daily, as do most plants in pots.
