Hopefully someone will have better advice but I would definitely get another quote since you're talking almost 10k. Since quartz is manmade it should be easy to find either the same slabs or something very close (but maybe by a different brand of quartz).

You are coming out right about $100 sq/ft + tax. That's in the right ballpark, you might do a bit better (or worse) by shopping around.

Thank you all very much for your responses. Featherbee and DrB I think getting one more quote is a good idea. It can't hurt anything. I told our contractor today I was thinking I might get another quote.

KitchenPlace, thank you also. It might get me if I have to go up to 3 slabs because I'll have to purchase it all of course but then I'll have extra to go up the wall behind the cooktop. I'm trying to see the silver lining if I have to go up in price!

My kitchen is big, but that seems rather high. I'd get several other quotes. You can call and say how many square feet you'll need and get a quick estimate over the phone.

I looked the quartz up online and could not quite tell from the pics, but it seemed to me that some care may be necessary to get a good seam . It doesn't have a large pattern, but the colors do swirl around and make a larger pattern. Will they need more material to make a good seam? It is a lovely choice.

Yes, that's it, thank you jhmarie. I talked to this fabricator today he mentioned the exact same thing you did. He said it was more than just square feet needed and it depended on how many seams I wanted and where they were - so I may want to go to three slabs for that fact. You are totally correct.

Nicole, I agree. I have found another place that's highly recommended been in business over 30 years. I'm going to get a quote from them too.
