Rinse Aid Dispenser-filling woes

I really like my Bosch dishwasher (with third rack!). It's quiet, and it dries well overnight, when the Rinse Aid dispenser is full. It even lets me know when to refill it, since it's impossible to see how much it holds. And that's the problem. The designs of the reservoir and of the bottle are not compatible with accurate, spill-free filling.

Does anyone have good tips for:

1) getting the Rinse Aid into the dispenser on the first squirt,

2) without overfilling the reservoir,

3) without spilling outside the dispenser?

I have a kitchen aid dishwasher and have the same problem with rinseaid spilling everywhere while trying to refill it. But I recently started to hold my finger over the rinse aid bottle turn it upside down right over the whole for it then slowly remove my finger slightly to let a thin stream of the rinseiad to pour out and into the dishwasher then when I'm done I just cover the bottle whole again. It works for me hopefully it will help you as well.

Use a funnel. Or transfer the rinse aid to another container such as a condiment squirt bottle.

Chris, that is SO ridiculously obvious!!!!

Lemi Shine rinse aid has a handy little rubber stopper which prevents spilling until you squeeze the bottle (like those newer bottles of ketchup).

Kitchen aid owner here and I either sploosh or take the time to reach for a funnel. It will be my finger from now on, but not for a bit - I just filled the darned thing last night. Did the sploosh, the funnel was two steps away.

I use Miele rinse aid. They recently redesigned their bottles. It doesn't pour until you squeeze the bottle. Big improvement!

I'll have to add Miele to my shopping list. I just bought a few bottles of Finish (darn Costco) but the machine seems to go through rinse aid pretty quickly. I can't wait to have to fill it again and try the new method.

How do you know when to stop? I can't see when it's getting full, and by the time it's full it's overflowing.

Ok I have to ask. Don't you think about the fact that rinse aid is on all your glasses and dishes and you end up eating or drinking a bottle of rinse aid? It's in the final rinse, right? I never use it because of that. Just curious.

@bp I give a few good squeezes and then slow down. I can see when it reaches the top.

I like the Lemi Shine rinse aid better than Finish and their bottle is like the Miele's.

Susan, I don't worry about it! First, I think it rinses off. Second, just a teensy bit gets dispensed in a cycle. Third, food/mouths come in contact with relatively small portions of all the items in the DW. So compared to everything else we are exposed to daily, rinse aid is not among my worries.

Susan, my dishes don't dry without the rinse aid, nor the inside of my dishwasher. Not even when using heated sanitizing rinse that I run most loads. Funny, but I'd worry more about soap not rinsed out of my laundry, then sleeping on the sheets or using the towels.

Just found this thread and I have the same issue even with the Lemishine. When you do squeeze it, it goes everywhere. I have tried cascade, finish, lemishine. I think they are all terrible for their purpose.

Cut off about a 2" piece of straw, insert it in the pour hole and it allows enough time to turn the bottle upside down and not spill all over.
