corner fireplace, tv placement, room layout, rug on carpet?

I seem to find
contradicting rules/advice and pictures on what to do with a corner fireplace,
tv, and furniture placement. I have read that a room is only supposed to
have one focal point and not competing elements such as a fireplace and tv next
to each other (separate walls). But, then I have heard it is a design no-no to
put a tv over the fireplace. Our room is a bit chopped up because of the floor
to carpet separation. We looked into getting it all wood floor in the living
room but $3,000 seemed like to much for such a small space when I would buy a
rug to put over it anyways. And they would have to have a t-moulding to
connect the floor. Anyways, wondering any suggestions for furniture
placement, tv, and fireplace ideas. And, can I put an area rug over carpet? I’m
going to buy all new furniture except probably keeping the couch. I want to
make things lighter and more open. I
only brought the blue chair down to see how to place furniture. Do I have to do
the same color all the way through the kitchen? I would like to get away from
brown but I have cream, black and brown in the tile and granite in
kitchen. I’m thinking of making that
whole fireplace wall stone and would like to put brick on the archway between
the dinette and living room. I think my design style is more of a rustic glam-
trying to get away from everything traditional, but mixing some pieces. A fresh
new pair of eyes and ideas would be helpful.
Thank you in advance.

The floor and carpet have a funky line separation
