    Hi Sally,

    First
of all, we determine the s.f of the kitchen (or area) we're working on.

    Then
we multiply the square footage of the area by 1.5. This gives us the total required wattage for
    the space. Example-a 400 s.f. kitchen
needs 600 watts of can lighting.

    A
typical recessed light uses a 60-watt bulb. We divide the required wattage
    (600) by the bulb wattage (600 watts divided by 60 = 10 cans).

    Sometimes
Brigitte opts to use a few more cans and drop the bulb wattage down to 40 watts
    in some of them.

    Hope this helps.
