Backsplash for white kitchen - HELP

I have been trying to decide on a backsplash since I moved in... about a year... and just cannot do it on my own. Can you please chime in on my choices?

1 - glass in a taupe gray 3x6

2- glass in a lighter beige/gray 3x12

3- crackle gray 3x6 (also comes in 4x12)

4 - marble 3x6

Should I be considering something else?

My first instinct was the marble, love it, but perhaps it doesn't go with my countertop since it is quartz? I like the glass tiles since my home seems a little more contemporary with the clean lines and slab drawers, but worried it will look to sterile? I like the crackle tiles but I worry that it will look too traditional and is at odds with the slab drawers? Now you see my dilemma... I just don't know what to do!!

An alternative issue is in which pattern to install the tile. I love the herringbone pattern. Should I do all herringbone in the kitchen? Or... since it is a big kitchen... would that be too much? Do subway style and herringbone only in the hood area?

Please HELP!!

Beautiful kitchen. I would not do glass or marble. I would do a white or a light gray ceramic.

Pick your field tile first, then you can play around with being fancy for the range wall.

I like number 3 than 1. Based on my monitor...not sure about number 2...is that shade in the countertop?

I like 3 of the options, but usually like a shade of white best. Just not sure about your #4.

I don't think the color of #2 goes at all. I think marble is not a good idea at all give your marble-look counter. While that particular tile doesn't have a lot going on with the gray, you will have variation among tiles (the nature of marble), and I think it will fight with the counter. Of the two remaining tiles (1 and 3), I prefer the crackle (#3), but I actually think there's probably a better 5th option out there for you somewhere.

Love your kitchen! I too am obsessed with marble. My fave is 3 and of course 4.

Would love to know the name of your quartz counters.

Perhaps a light gray ceramic tile like this?

I don't like any of the colors except maybe #3. But its difficult to tell from the computer. I think your kitchen looks traditional. The cabinets and fixtures look traditional. I like #3 in style better than the glass. Could you do a little bit stronger gray than #3? It might not work but that's what samples are for, lol.

I agree with @cawaps that there is a 5th option out there. Are your base cabinets light gray?

You seem to have a mix of more modern (slab fronts on bottom cabs) and traditional (uppers and door). I think a ceramic tile would be best although I am always drawn to glass.

I am the only one who actually preferred the color of #2 -- thought it complemented the counter best and drew out one of the lighter colors in it. But, perhaps my monitor doesn't show the colors true.

I love marble too but it doesn't work well with the counter IMO.

I think you could add a small-scale tiled marble inset under the hood to get your marble fix. You could also frame it with marble half-round pencil tile.

I think I prefer a very light gray to a white- not sure I am able to pick the 'right' shade of white. DH prefers a darker gray. I do realize that my choices here are not very 'light gray' and perhaps is part of the problem.

rantontoo- yes, it is a shade... poor picture taking skills :)

I have to agree that the shade of the white marble does not look good... after your comments I went back to look at it and it does seem like it is a lot whiter than my cabinets (and countertop of course).

    saints08 - I believe they are Rococo.

Based on the comments I should focus on 2 or 3 or something else... but what could that something else be? Any suggestions? My budget is up to $20 per square feet.

#2 sometimes looks good to me... like a light gray but sometimes it turns beige and I do not like that...it is a chameleon. It is supposed to be light gray: http://www.discountglasstilestore.com/3x12-glass-subway-series-light-gray-sale-price-6-89-sq-ft/

#3 is Highland Park Crackle tile in dove gray: http://www.discountglasstilestore.com/handcrafted-dove-gray-3-x-6-highland-park-crackle-finish-porcelain-tile-7-99-sq-ft/

I love the pic mayflowers posted! Is that glass or ceramic tile? Would something like that go with my kitchen or should I steer clear since I have an exposed type of hood?

It's ceramic. You could do any size frame under the hood. You won't tile behind the chimney since your cabs stop below the ceiling. I suggested small tiles because it would chop up the marble pieces so you weren't comparing the quartz to the marble. You could do hex mosaic or something more elaborate, maybe a basket weave. Though that's traditional.

Your picture taking skills are just fine. Its just that #2 is the wrong color IMHO :) I can see where it would turn beige, because of all the tiles its probably the least to match. It looks like it has a rosey under color to it, on my screen. And I just figure on my screen all the tiles and counter are color shifted the same degree. My computer color is actually quite good though. The #1 leans green. The distinction between #2 & #1 is very apparent when they are next to each other. They pull out the color opposites in each other. The #3 looks best with the veining.

get a multi colored mosaic or whatever motif you like- with green/ white/ gray. Color is needed. the whole room looks gray to me...color will bring a dimension that's missing-even if mixed in a pattern with neutrals .
