HI -- That is a very stately house . I think stucco or better would be to have the wall clad in stone after checking to make sure it is stable. I would only have shutters on the main level and not on the upper windows . Then play up the entrance in the color. Maybe see if the gate wrought iron can be added on to or find a more ornate one like vintage or antique . Iron with some brass balls etc. Have the porch seating in Red White and Blue ... I am Canadian and I think that would look great , like your flag . Big hanging potted plants or Boston ferns or flowers on the porch in the summer would make it even more stunning .

i'd think that painting concrete could only lead to peeling concrete. (people in my area paint similar foundations. they always peel). power washing sounds good.

I have to agree that painting would not be the right treatment for this wall.

You'll have to pressure wash it before painting anyway--maybe when all the miss, mold, mildew, and dirt is gone it will be bright enough to pass muster :)

It probably isn't concrete either, more likely limestone or sandstone. It looks like the pillars are original and the wall was added later. I wonder if the original fence was wrought iron like the gate?

Sounds like power washing wins, for now. Hopefully, it will clean up nicely. Not sure about removing the shutters from the upper windows. This is the effect I want to achieve, eventually.
