i've got plenty o ideas.....nothing in the wallet!

you know i don't have any money...i'm looking on craigslist for free leftover decking wood! ha!
I googled plaid golf pants and they can be worn quite well, I must say!
Hope u all have a great day/evening!! Off to play nurse!!
    Have a good day Jayme!
@mpoulson - my wallet is the same!!!

One of my good friends has an above ground pool that he built a deck around. Looks fantastic! Though I don't know what he does if he springs a leak... Those pools don't last forever! If I had the space for a pool, I think I'd do it in a heartbeat but my yard is far too tiny.
well rob, if i had the money for a pool it would have to go into the front yard!! lol!
my backyard area is tiny! long and skinny and my driveway goes all the way around the back of the house to the other street! Front yard is much larger. I would scare anyone driving down the street if they saw me! ha!

I have always wanted a little koi pond of something....but have never taken the plunge. Not into a koi pond, but built one... :)
I absolutely am a water freak.

MP, I think you are a nature freak!

Anyone know the law regarding fences and pools? Our backyard is completely fenced in, and there's a padlock on one of the gates that has to be opened from the inside. But the other gate is just latched - I wonder if that's enough? If someone let themself inside the latched gate, would that be considered tresspassing?
I think it would be considered trespassing bob.
as long as you have a fence around your pool area, you should be fine legally. here anyway. but my gosh, you don't have to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle here either! so who knows???
What about a bicycle? We have to wear bike helmets! Save us from ourselves!
STK - not Reese Witherspoon nor Al Michaels! Bunch of twits. I feel your pain with the oak tree, we have a mulberry tree so we get the squirrelly green things in the spring and billions of leaves in the fall!

You need to slow down, take care of that leg, what's the good in pushing yourself?
You know, we have the largest assortment of birds I've ever seen here in our cow town. We have the usual robins and blue jays and wrens, a bird that looks like a miniature terradactyl, owls, pigeons and a woodpecker that's bound and determined to take down a utility pole. One time a stork flew into our back yard! I was sitting on the patio and I totally froze until it flew away. I didn't know what it was, I told DIL it was an emu and she told me emus don't fly. So we figured it was a stork!!!

Bobbi - The building code regarding pools & fences may differ from one municipality to another, so check your town & state laws.
I will do that, thanks Astraea!
i love birds!!!!!!!! (the nature nut)
I saw the prettiest bluebird this morning.....almost a cobalt blue in color.
i was on the back patio yesterday and 3 cardinals came out of nowhere and swooped past me, headed for a tree. I love the chickadees! They are on the birdfeeder outside the kitchen window everyday. I wanted to keep one one time that Nala played with....but of course I let it go. :( He spent the night in the guest room though for one night!
I can't imagine seeing a stork in the yard. That had to be wild!
The bluejays we have are MEAN. They fight with each other and with all the other birds too. Not the woodpeckers tho. Yep, scared the living heck out of me that stork did. It was HUGE!!!

I love chickadees too! They are my absolute favorite! Our jays are mean too. I don't like how they go after other birds.
I don't think I've seen a chickadee here. R says he sees storks everyday on his way to the Altamont. They're really big birds, about half the size of an ostrich.
I have never seen a stork! I think the chickadee is the one bird that doesn't fly south for the winter. I love their little song, too.
kimdee, I promise you, if you live in this cow town long enough you'll see everything :))
I find the bluejays around here ok. It's the magpies. Dive bombing at cats and rabbits... And getting into the garbage!!!
    Ok, I don't think I've seen a magpie!
Be glad you've never seen a magpie! They are the most. annoying. bird. ever. Pretty, but annoying.
I saw a roadrunner on the golf course in Palm Springs. I didn't know they were a 'real' bird!
Did he go 'beep beep'? hehehe
Haha! No, disappointingly enough... but we went "beep beep" at him!
And then he ran away, very very fast, from the crazy lady in the golf skirt.
yep bluejays are mean birds....always fighting it seems.
the bluebird i saw this morning is something else...not sure of the name. Not a big bird, but the color is exceptional...just on part of it's body.
Did it look like this? So pretty!
kimdee24 - That looks like a bluebird, not a bluejay.
Right, Western Bluebird. I don't think I've seen one here, but apparently we have them.
At least that's not the "mad bluebird" :))

bobbi, it is 'meep, meep"..hi all and good night. Very busy day today. Put cottage on the market; made chili; persuaded my clients to put BM gull wing gray in their south facing living room (could not do the yellow they wanted and I tried to like). Then, CP, forced a margarita. A girl needs her beauty sleep…too late, you say?

@olldbobbi..Jealous!! But glad u r not freezing tail!
Jayme, we'll talk in August when the temps hit 113 here. Too hot to breathe!
Good morning ladies.............should be a beautiful day here, before the rain and a cold front moves in tonight......not too cold. Tomorrow is still supposed to be in the low 60's, then back to a warming trend..... mid 70's for the weekend.

Since this thread appears to be going to the birds.........I'll add one. When Lisa and I got married, the first year we lived in a golf course community in a second floor condo. Our entry way was on the ground floor and just about daily we had to deal with Sandhill Granes that nested between the buildings in the green spaces. usually they weren't a problem, but when they had chicks, they could and usually did get quite aggressive if you encroached on their space. They were very protective of the young birds...... and noisy.....my gawd they were as noise as they were beautiful to observe......
STK, they are beautiful! How big do they get?
Sounds like how I behaved with my babies!
I see the odd Sandhill Crane on the lake behind my house in the summer, they are beautiful! More Canada Geese though, and they definitely get cranky when they've got little ones to protect.

Every year, the local paper sets up a "Goose Cam" on a farm west of the city. There's a goose that nests there each year and they keep the camera on until her babies hatch and they leave the nest. I can't help but watch and wait for her fuzzy little ones to appear!

Kimdee, unfortunately I can't get the video to play, but the article is interesting :))
Aw, too bad it won't play for you! One year, we had a late snow storm and this poor goose was all huddled in her nest trying to keep her babies warm. I think she only ended up with two chicks that year, I was kind of sad :( watching her leave her unhatched eggs behind.
Kimdee, if you have late snowstorms, you seriously need to move to California!
I seriously do need to move to California! I'd only be allowed to stay there for 6 months out of the year though. Unless I find some handsome prince to marry me and move me away from all this snow. (yeah, right!)
Bummer! Well, maybe they're out there, at least you'll have six months to look!
I think I've given up on the fairy tale ending, sad but true!
    I hear ya!
