Experience with Jenn Air appliances?

Considering purchasing Jenn Air appliances for our kitchen remodel- anyone have any experience with them in regards to durability or service? We have been told by multiple salespeople (different stores) that they are on par with Wolf, Thermador, and Viking at a slightly lower price point. Any feedback (positive or negative) is appreciated!

You buy appliances by TYPE and the features, style, and reliability and price points that best suit your budget and personal use of your kitchen.. There is no need in this day and age, to commit all appliances to one single brand. I might have a Sub Zero fridge, A GE Monogram 36 inch dual fuel PRO range, a hood from someone else, and a dishwasher from Bosch and a convection oven from........?

I totally agree there is no maker IMO that makes all appliances well and certainly none that makes all their appliances suit my needs .BTW that is why stainless has remained the color of choice for appliances for so long they all look fine together.

Whirltag's Jennair line isn't anything especially different under the skin than a basic Maytag or Kitchenaid. Just different styling. Save thousands and buy Maytag. They are trying the snob appeal route to position it úp market, but when the same motherboard is in all of it, and there are just a few ''added'' useless features, you are overpaying for mediocrity.

I will also add that deals on "suites" are very common. The small savings of a "free appliance' rebate, or similar, is rarely enough to justify a compromise in the quality of other appliances better selected in another brand, or one that has features that better suit your needs and budget. Select individually, is the point.

Thanks everyone- We are being offered a deal on a Jenn Air suite however, I am still wondering if anyone has heard and/or knows of Jenn Air experience in particular as I haven't heard of it until now. I appreciate the advice regarding mixing and matching brands which we may end up doing, but was curious about Jenn Air specific feedback, which could help make our decision. I don't see a lot online reviews. Thanks!

Audrey, I can only offer this. There was a 14-yr-old Jenn Air wall oven when we bought our home over 3 years ago. It looked and worked perfectly. The only problem was it was white, and all the other appliances were stainless. Stuck out like a BIG sore thumb. We replaced it with stainless. The Jenn Air went to Habitat for Humanity.

Part of the problem is a Jenn Air purchased 14 years ago was most likely made better than one you get today. If I recall correctly in my research for a new wall oven, Jenn Air is now owned by Whirlpool. Also, I would shop more for features vs. a particular brand. Quality is questionable all over the place these days.

Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, Ingles, Magic Chef, Admiral, Hotpoint, Ariston, KitchenAid, and JennAir are all the same company. With platform engineering. Meaning a Ford is a Lincoln is a Mercury.

It's interesting when you start looking at who makes what. The Whirlpool Corporation is possibly one of the largest today. Doesn't speak anything toward quality. My siblings both have Maytag washers over 30 years old. Those days are looooong gone.

So is it the consensus that brands are equally reliable?

Maybe more equally reliable and unreliable. Seriously, I'm sure some are better than others. It's just that the crazy negative reviews on anything and everything can be so confusing. Maybe it's because people tend to speak up more when they're not pleased. Again, shopping for features seems easier than sticking with a certain brand.

I have had a suite of Jenn Air now for about 3 weeks and am totally underwhelmed. Oven is junk, range is ok, fan does not vent - wishing I had waited a few more months to save up for another brand...

Try checking out specific items on Consumer Reports. It is amazing how an appliance from one company will get different ratings from year to year and model to model.

IDK, I just prefer the JenAir styling/design - very pleasing and sophisticated IMO.

Audrey I have the same question, BUT I'm kind on the fence, because I had a TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience with Kitchen Aid.

And I just learned that Jenn air is own by Whirpool. Probably I'm going to end with Miele or Bosh. Wolf it is out of my range. Any feedback on Jenn air?

I love my Jenn air refrigerator and microwave and may buy the entire suite. I cant believe some one would say they they are underwhelmed by it.

My husband and I did a complete remodel of our kitchen (including gutting kitchen, knocking down wall, new custom cabinets and huge island, etc.) in late 2014. Since everything was going to be new, we also bought an entire matching set of Jenn-Air appliances, including built-in refrigerator, dishwasher, induction cooktop, vent hood, oven, microwave, warming drawer, and wine refrigerator. We went with a package because we wanted that matching look. Those that have handles all have the same sleek, modern handle. At this point, we have been using it about 2.5 years and so far have loved it. The only problem we had was about 6 months after everything was installed (and remodel complete), there was a recall on the oven. Apparently, the rolling slide out rack would collapse when something heavy was put on it. While we never had a problem, a Jenn-Air approved technician came out to install a repair kit. Unfortunately, the kit didn't work so they had to replace the entire oven. The problem with this is that were discontinuing our model because of the problem, and the new model to replace it had slightly different dimensions, and looked a little different. Jenn-Air agreed to replace the oven for free, and cover the cost of modifying the cabinet that had been built to the specifications of the model we bought. However, I wanted them to replace the microwave as well since they looked different and we spent a lot of money to have the matching set. I had to haggle with Jenn-Air for a while and they finally agreed to replace the microwave as well. Turned out that the new model of the microwave that matched the oven (and replaced our model) was a microwave with convection oven system. While that was great, it also required some rewiring and breaker box work. It ended up requiring extensive and expensive work for everything, and I had to go back and forth with the Jenn-Air rep in order for them to finally agree to cover all costs. They ended up paying for everything short of about $300. All said, they ended up doing right by us but I really had to push for it and felt like they could have been more accommodating from the get-go, especially since we had spent so much money buying their appliances. So the issue we had was not with the appliances per say, but we just thought Jenn-Air customer service could have been better. Other than that, everything had been great and problem free. And we definitely love our appliances (see attached pictures).

Wonderful info Valerie- thanks so much for taking the time to respond in such detail! We have ordered Jennifer Air suite except for the fridge- the style I like is not available in counter depth, which we need so I have to go with another brand although it will look very similar. We haven't even started demo yet but I am looking forward to seeing all these new appliances in the kitchen!

We've had 2 Jenn-Aire stove/oven combos. The first we purchased for our new construction home many years ago. I hated it within the first few months. The stove ignitor on one burner stopped working, was replaced, went out of warranty and stopped working again (we used a lighter to light it when we needed it). I felt the oven cooking was uneven for a convection unit. After 3 years the main panel went out....and that's an EXPENSIVE fix as it controls all operations. The first time we fixed it the panel was faulty and it had to be replaced again (warranty). 4-5 years later the panel broke again and we just replaced the stove. Ohhhhh, and the installation of the stove on top of hardwood floors was impossible because the one we bought only had adjustable legs by about 1/4". The builder had to cut circular HOLES in our hardwood floor to install it on top of wood so it could slide in over the granite counters. Terrible.

We inherited the second one when we bought our current home. Thankfully we knew we were gutting the kitchen anyway. I suffered with that one for 6 months and hated it every day. The oven temp was wildly inaccurate, the downdraft was useless...I just didn't like it.

We went with GE slate appliances and I've completely loved them for the last 2 years.

oh no- thanks so much for your feedback. Hmmm, not I may need to re-think it. I don't know a lot of people with Jenn Air appliances which is why I was looking for feedback.

Not sure of the age of our Jenn-Air fridge and gas stove, as they were in the house when we purchased 5 years ago. Three burners have gone recently and a year ago after cleaning the oven, the electrical panel had to be repaired. Our fridge had to be repaired once, but this really won't help. You'll hear bad and good about most appliances. My recommendation is to purchase each appliance based on the reviews not only for that manufacturer but also for the model itself. I can recommend a Bosch dishwasher though, as it's the best one we ever owned.

Maureen- thanks so much for your feedback- that's the problem- I have found great and terrible reviews for pretty much ALL brands- it's a little overwhelming to try to narrow it down. I researched the exact model #'s for different brands and there's lots that love it, lots that hate it. Very helpful but yet frustrating at the same time. We were told by many people to stay away from LG and Samsung mostly for their horrible servicing or lack thereof.

Audrey, it's beyond overwhelming, for sure. You need to look at features you like and not worry about a certain brand. Honestly, once I did that it became a lot less frustrating and confusing.

I've heard the same thing about LG and Samsung. When we bought our new washer/dryer the four places we looked told us those were their two top sellers. I narrowed my choices down to Maytag and LG. I got the LG set due to features and appearance. That was last July...so far, so good but I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

I own a Jenn air built-in oven. The control panel has recently gone bad requiring a $1,150 part. Checking online, I am seeing numerous poor reviews of their products. The technician (Jenn Airs recommended service provider) who found the indicates that he sees this problem regularly. Jenn Air will not budge an inch on this, except that they will provide a 15% price reduction on a new unit ($4,000 + installation + tax, etc), which I find somewhat insulting. With these types of poor reviews coupled with my experience, I would suggest potential buyers steer clear of Jenn Aid Products
