We had a really hard time deciding this for our basement. I love the ease and convenience of a gas fireplace, but also like the idea of being able to heat the house without gas or electricity. Ultimately, we decided on a Lopi Cape Cod stove. I am a big fan of the Napoleon 1150P Gourmet wood stove. We bought a home in the middle of the woods about 2 yrs ago and this has finally made it on my list. After countless hours of research, I've concluded that my free wood, location of the stove, and true cooking capabilities solves all of our family's needs. Its a taller skinnier stove as apposed to a short wider stove. We didn't want to be dependent upon a store for our heating needs and liked the step towards self sufficiency. Additionally, we have children that like to run through the house so we wanted something that is above their line of sight, not below.
