Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray and Copley Gray

Hi, I have adjoining rooms (family room and office) that I'd like to paint complementary shades. The family room is Rockport Gray (BM HC-105) and I bought Copley Gray (BM-HC-104) for the office. The problem is they look too much alike and I'd like the Copley to be a bit darker. I hesitated on choosing Cromwell Gray (BM HC-103) because I thought it was too dark. Do you think I can add some dark gray paint to the Copley and get closer to the Cromwell colour? Getting the tin retinted is unfortunately not an option - I'd like to try to salvage what I have if I can by adding colour to it - I'm just not sure what colour to add that will give me the desired results.

Try adding some black to it.

I painted my dining room Copley Gray and I thought it was quite different than the Rockport. I was going to put Rockport in my bedroom so I had a large sample up and it looked quite brown in my bedroom where the Copley is Gray. Depends on the lighting of course....

Hi. It also depends on what time of day. Light changes and can have different effects on your paint color.

Did you put up a paint chip or did you use actual paint for the sample. Remember the color will be darker once it's dry.

Hi, I did paint a sample on the wall and put two coats. Both rooms get a lot of natural light from large south-facing windows. The Rockport Gray is quite green at night, more gray during the day, but I am very happy with the results. The Copley sample looks virtually identical to the Rockport and I was looking for a bit more contrast. I'm going to try adding some black or dark gray to it and see if I can darken it down a bit. So, to wrap this up, I'm pleased to advise that I added some very dark grey paint I had to the Copley and it darkened down nicely. It isn't quite as dark as cromwell gray, but it is approaching that colour and I'm pleased with it. I've just about finished painting the room and it looks really good. I've got a new light fixture coming which will brighten the room up considerably and I think that is going to be the finishing touch that it needs.

MV, I know this is an older thread, but if you can post pictures of your rooms in both Copley Gray and Rockport Gray, that would be so helpful. Thanks.
