I have a hard time imagining how anything would clash with white, except maybe stylistically. My opinion is that you should include the cabinet in the living room if you decide to paint the kitchen cabinets.

IMO white subway tile has no connecction to the counter find a color in there you like and get a glass subway tile in that color with matching grout.

If what we have currently is the best for the house style, I want to know, so thank you, @d7e001!! What color/type of backsplash would you recommend, specifically if we left the cabinet stain rather than paint? I kind of had my heart set on subway.

The reason any of this is even an option right now is that we had a leak from the ice maker line seeping into our wall, up into the grout in the kitchen and some cabinets were damaged in the process as well. So when they are repairing/restaining I have the opportunity to make some other changes as well. I am thinking of having hardware (pulls) to the cabinets/drawers while we're at it.

Look at your first picture with the white doors near the floor & backsplash: clash!!! Go with something in the off white/cream/bone color family in subway tile. I would not paint the cabinets white. Don't put backsplash in desk area either. It is not necessary!! While doing the backsplash replace in the outlets in same color as tile. Lutron has all colors. Add knobs to cabinet doors & pulls to drawers. Enjoy!!

Go ahead and paint (I'd pick a warmer white, to go with counters) and add hardware. I think subway tile could be ok, but you might want a pale gray or taupe to pick up tones from both counter and floor, helping the whole room cohere. White could work too, but it will leave the tan zones a bit more isolated...

Wow thank you all so much. Love the vanilla/warmer white cabinet suggestions. What does everyone else think of @acm's suggestion of a pale gray backsplash?

The work will begin probably in the next week or so. In the process of getting bids right now.

The gentleman who came out last night asked if we'd want herringbone or standard subway tile lay. I love herringbone but sounds like it would be too much with the busyness of the quartz. What do y'all think? I will attach a close up of the counter to this comment.

I think there are plenty of examples out there of white cabinets and subway tile with granite similar to yours. I'm not a fan of white subway but I think these I've found look pretty good. I would go with what you're going to be happy with for many years to come. The kitchen in the first picture is a dream. (not sure the cabinets in the last picture are really white)

It will look great. You can always do a taupy/tan grout with the white subway tile.

What did you end up doing? I’m in a similar predicament! I love white and subway tile but there is so much wood in my home I’m worried the kitchen won’t match the rest of the house if I paint it white...
