Did they tell you they were doing this? Where I live, painters prefer Kelly-Moore and match any color I choose. I've been very happy with the results. I want my painters to use the paint they like as long as the color is an exact match and the quality the same. At this point, I always ask them upfront what paint they intend to use.

No, I asked for BM. I'm concerned I'll always think it looks "off".

My painter always uses Sherwin Williams (and I trust whatever he wants to use because he is my uncle and does a fantastic job and gives me a great deal!). I have always been very pleased with the SW color matching and have not had anything I didn't think was an exact match. Their machines are very sophisticated these days.

IMHO it's a principle issue. Painters should have the skills to utilize multiple brands and types of finishes. Sure they have favorites. But, you paying them to paint, not choose products. I always provide the paint to be used myself. Folks have reported SW yields better margins for the painters. You asked for BM revere pewter (beautiful color) ... done deal.

It's strange that they didn't tell you they use Sherwin Williams up front. I've hired only two pro painters in my life, but they both used SW exclusively. Both times we had SW color match BM colors and I was happy (interior and exterior applications.)

If you ever want to match that paint in the future you need to use the SW "recipe" in the same product line. There will likely be a slight variation between SW and BM as well as between products within each manufacturer.

We are building & the builder only uses SW paint. I painted three different 18"x24" drywall boards of Behr Silver Drop. One is the Behr sample paint, one is the SW sample paint (SW samples come in a satin finish only) and one is Silver Drop in a SW flat paint. All three are different. The two SW boards are the same color with the sample being slightly lighter than the flat finish. The SW saleman told me to expect that because of the base paint that is used in the samples. The Behr sample is definitely different than the SW. The green undertone is less pronounced. I probably would have never noticed. I might actually like the SW color better. Have them paint you a sample in the SW paint product & finish they are going to use and compare it to a sample of BM Revere Pewter. Or insist on BM.

Do you like SW paint? I prefer BM. I'd want to see the color and make sure it's an exact match. It can be done. Too many times I've had the mixer guys at paint stores try and tell me how close it is and I'll never notice. I once had one guy screw up two gallons of paint, each slightly different even though they were to be the same color, and try and get me to leave the store like that. No way. Getting back on track, it can be matched. I've found it's usually a closer match if the sample is scanned in vs. reading the color formula from their system. I always have the paint tested right on my paint sample and have it adjusted if needed.

I wasn't successful color matching SW to Revere Pewter. After that experience, I decided to never do it again.

I have my living areas painted Revere Pewter with Sherwin Williams paint.

If I had to do it over, I would go with Benjamin Moore. I don't think it was a perfect match and the sheen is also different.

After using BM on another project, I now believe it performs much better than the SW.
