Drawer handles knobs pulls....

So I ventured over to Kitchens to ask about drawer pulls. And a perfectly nice person attempted to help. But I forgot how intimidating and intense I found that forum. Whoa! I spent a few months researching kitchens when I moved full time to Maine in 2011. It was daunting to read about people who had that much space time money to spend on kitchens often without being terribly focused on cooking. I finally retreated to the cooking forum where people use their real kitchens to cook, eat, live. More recently I have been wandering over here for inspiration and ideas about living in my small space. No real criticism of the people who can afford huge kitchens just retreating to where I am more comfortable.

So I will post my questions here. I soon hope to have 3 new 36" extra deep full extension drawers in my kitchen area. Yay! I already have 3 18" drawers and 2 doors under my sink. And suggestions for how to best open my drawers and doors? Something that I can't impale myself on daily, not too expensive, secure..... Thoughts?

welcome to here! can you post pics? we love pics! probably of anything....

I had requirements like that for my handles. I did buy 2.... in 4 yrs! I do need to buy more. just got busy living and forgot how ugly the ones on my doors/drawers were...

I need no sharp ends, at least 1.25" projection, very plain - no grooves, designs etc that can collect dust and food crud... I found something like that, I just need to buy more. and also - the holes on the doors don't match those on the handles so I need to put in a new hole and patch one of the old ones...

looking forward to more on your kitchen! I think the majority of people are pretty limited in $s when doing their kitchen. many on kit are also and do some awesome changes / upgrades on little $s.

Yes, post photos so we can give you some ideas.

Jeepers, murraysmom, those are perfect! When I painted the breezeway and bi-fold doors I changed the ugly "brass" knobs that were on the doors for some very much like yours that I had found somewhere. I hoard knobs and pulls. When I need something I check my stash. Almost always find something that's right. Junk shopping is my pastime.

Yup. Pictures and of the whole kitchen and the type of pull/handle you like. When I did my kitchen I checked every handle display to be sure my fingers would come back out of the handle once I got them in there!

I went with simple arch-style pulls for both my kitchen and bathroom cabinets. I think these are the ones in the kitchen.

    cabinet pulls

The ones for the bathroom were similar but smaller, a chrome version of this:

    smaller cabinet pulls

I've never had any problems or regrets. Hickory Hardware wasn't the cheapest solution but also not the most expensive, and their customer service was very good. More recently I painted some furniture, including a couple of dressers, and changed the hardware while I was at it. I found some inexpensive knobs at Target.

    Ok photos

Excuse my cluttered messy sink area. And well cluttered everything. Sigh! I am hoping if I get my storage areas set up I will have the discipline to do a major culling. I keep wanting to wait until my drawers are installed. There are dishes/pots/pans I use daily, monthly, yearly etc.... I would just assume keep some of pieces I find occasionally useful but not ALL of it.

I don't have photos of the unfinished understairs drawers - I was just at the cabinet makers shop and should have. Here is the spot where they will go. Here I am facing west.

Here is the sink cabinet on the north wall. They will both be the same wood - brown ash. The understairs cabinet will be fancier - fine woodworker vs excellent carpenter.

There is a tiny addition on my east wall 4'x12'. I just painted the walls yellow (yellowy green) - I wanted that area to feel sunny. I hope to paint the area outside this addition the same pale celery color that is on the North wall. I am hoping to build some very shallow shelves for canning jars and art.... It is my longest wall for art.

Back to my original issue - I am homing for a somewhat unifying simple handle given my disparate doors and drawers....

    What about black ?

I have 36" drawers in my plan now, however I am concerned they may be to wide and also using 2 handles may be cumbersome.

BTW, totally agree, this is a much nicer group :)

I love those handles And always black and white kitchens. I had the big 36 inch drawers years ago. For the life of me I can not remember the handles I had on them. I know the other cabinets and drawers did not have any handles. They had an indentation to open them with on the bottom edge. They were also easy opening drawers.

Really loving your paint color agmss15.

Ok I bought some drawer pulls - brought them to the cabinet maker - took one terrible photo of the cabinet he is working on and none with the pulls before my phone died. Grrrr.....

But isn't the grain on the drawer fronts beautiful!

PS This project has been so slow that I am being aggressively friendly and involved to hopefully finish it off

The grain is beautiful. It is so hard to friendly push some one. Worth the wait on this project. What a great addition to your space.

Oh and the out of focus hand is holding a pull. Can you see it? Lol!

Wel I can barely see a very simple shaped handle that would be easy to grab by the looks of the end of it I can see.

    congratulations. The wood is beautiful.

    It's time for an update.

Ok - I need to go visit my furniture today. I know progress has been made. The builder is busy saving the world which I admire greatly BUT I wanna put my dishes away!!!!! I am so close after 5+ years...

Almost.... really really close but not quite.

The furniture is done. I thought I had set up with my nephew and the cabinet maker to move it today. But evidently something came up with the nephew and family.

So maybe the base will be installed today and the cabinet next week. Sigh. I did move everything out of the way including the fridge. I dealt with the scary stuff under the fridge. The back of the fridge lines up with that post now.

Oh and you can kind of see my paint color - which I love. It changes from green to yellow to cream/white depending on the light. And from soft to bright.

A question - how often do you all scrub the floor under your fridge? I generally get under there two or three times a year. Clearly not enough because it was gross!

And for no particular reason here are some shiitake mushrooms I am growing.

desk thing on casters I move out once every couple of months. As far as cleaning under the fridge. I usually vacuum the bottom thing under there off at least once month. Moving the fridge out maybe twice a year and the same with the stove. I am always afraid I will hurt the vinyl when I am moving them. I have another half kitchen half dinning room desk thing on casters I move every couple of months. I just try not to think of what is under all of them. If you have animals like we do there is going to be big time fur balls happening and multiplying.

    Mushroom is very cool.

    Progress!

    The base

The biggest drawer - with the handles I chose. The drawer is huge!!!! The table it is on is 42" - to give you an idea. 10" deep.

    Another view

    Inside -

    More later....

    Whoot!!! Getting closer.

wow. That is one useful drawer!

Here we go! My beautiful new fabulous if (very, very) expensive useful drawers semi installed. Needs trim and a narrow set of shelves on the right.

A small rant... The guy has disappeared again for awhile and I am kinda glad. I need to lick my financial wounds and maybe finish on my own. I got a little grumpy with the combination of overwrought worried emotion and expensive inefficiency - I felt more than a little manipulated which I dislike. But this guy is very nice and close friends with my mom. Breathe! I now need to fill the drawers, enjoy and let go.

    And aren't they just beautiful!

Gorgeous. I am sure you will totally enjoy your drawers. Sorry it had to be like pulling teeth to get them. Been in your shoes myself with a cabinet maker that did just about the same to us. GGGGRRR. In the end I was thrilled with what I got. The large drawrers are really nice to work with. I loved mine.

    Thank you!

    Positivity!

the drawers are beautiful! and will be so useful. i'm hoping to get mine done maybe this summer. 24" tho. i'm hoping for 2 shallow ones and 2 deeper ones (plastic ware and larger mixing bowls/colanders). and i have 4 places (2 skinny cabs) that i can hopefully have some metal wire slide outs put in. they're only about 11.5" wide and i found some 'slide out racks' that are about 10.5" wide. if my helper can get them in those spaces, it'd give me more accessible space.

wonderful. Hopefully once in use you'll gloss over the nuisance of getting them.
